Job summary

Amazon Web Services Australia Pty Ltd in Sydney seeks an experienced Delivery Consultant - Mainframe Modernisation to help enterprise customers assess, design, and deliver mainframe migration and modernisation on AWS.

You will lead complex modernization journeys, applying patterns like replatforming and refactoring to cloud-native architectures, while reducing technical debt and accelerating cloud adoption.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in enterprise application modernization and migration, including mainframe, serverless, containers, or cloud operations.
• 7+ years with mainframe technologies (z/OS, COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, VSAM).
• 3+ years with AWS or equivalent cloud platform, especially migration services (Mainframe Modernization, DMS, SCT, Step Functions, Lambda).
• Experience with mainframe modernization patterns: replatforming, refactoring to cloud-native, or automated code transformation.
• Experience with database migration from mainframe systems to cloud-native databases (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB).
• Ability to design migration waves, work with stakeholders, and manage cutover risk.

Responsibilities

• Leading the assessment and discovery of customer mainframe estates, including application portfolio analysis, dependency mapping, and modernisation readiness evaluation.
• Designing and implementing modernisation solutions on AWS - including replatforming, refactoring to cloud-native services, and automated code transformation approaches.
• Providing deep technical guidance on mainframe technologies (COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, VSAM) and their AWS equivalents throughout project delivery.
• Collaborating with customer architects, development teams, and business stakeholders to define migration waves, prioritise workloads, and manage cutover risk.
• Acting as a trusted advisor to customers on mainframe modernisation trends, including AI-assisted code transformation, automated testing strategies, and incremental migration patterns.
• Sharing knowledge within the organisation through mentoring, training, and creating reusable artifacts such as modernisation playbooks, assessment frameworks, and reference architectures
