Job summary

Certis Australia is seeking Aviation Screening Officers to support the security of Sydney Airport. You will operate X-ray and screening equipment, perform inspections, and deliver professional customer service in a 24/7 airport environment.

Role involves training, national qualification attainment, and extensive compliance with aviation security protocols. Rotating rosters and paid training are included as part of the role.

Qualifications

Eligibility to work full-time in Australia.
Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Professional presentation and reliability with security protocols.
Ability to obtain Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
Ability to manage conflict and stay professional under pressure.

Responsibilities

Operate advanced X-ray and screening equipment to detect prohibited items and assess images quickly.
Conduct physical inspections, bag checks, frisk searches and Explosive Trace Detection procedures.
Provide calm, confident, professional customer service to passengers and staff.
Monitor access points, walk-through detectors and screening lanes for safety.
Respond to alarms and incidents following established procedures.
Maintain records and support aviation security compliance.

Job Impact

As an Aviation Screening Officer, you’ll play a critical role in safeguarding national aviation security at Sydney Airport. Your sharp observation skills and ability to stay calm under pressure will ensure the safe movement of passenger and cargo across Sydney Airport’s 24/7 operation.

You’ll operate advanced screening technology, perform physical inspections, and deliver exceptional customer service whilst maintaining compliance with strict security protocols. This is a role where your attention to detail and professionalism directly contribute to the safety of Australia’s skies and an improved passenger travel experience.

We are currently recruiting for:

Roles across a rotating roster – once you have completed training
5 weeks PAID TRAINING Monday to Friday training to give you a nationally recognised qualification - Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (AVI20118)

What you’ll be doing

Operating advanced X-ray and screening equipment to detect prohibited items and assess images quickly and accurately.
Conducting physical inspections, bag checks, frisk searches and Explosive Trace Detection procedures in line with aviation security requirements.
Providing calm, confident and professional customer service to passengers, airport workers and stakeholders.
Monitoring access points, walk-through metal detectors and screening lanes to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Responding to alarms, suspicious items and incidents in line with established procedures.
Maintaining accurate records and supporting compliance with aviation security standards and regulations.

Mandatory requirements

Eligibility to Work full-time in Australia

Valid Driving Licence and access to a vehicle

Excellent communication and customer service skills

Professional presentation, demonstrated reliability and strong understanding of security protocols

Ability to manage conflict and maintain professionalism under pressure

Ability to obtain and maintain Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)

Upon successful completion of the video interview you may be selected to attend an Assessment Centre consisting of an introduction to CERTS, the role of ASO and our training as well potentially of 2 types of assessments, panel interview and an onsite medical assessment.
