Job summary

South32 is seeking an Auto Electrician for a permanent role on a 7:7 day/night roster, FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay Shires. You will maintain, repair and rebuild surface and underground mobile mining equipment, with duties covering routine maintenance, breakdowns, air-conditioning systems and advanced auto-electrical circuits.

ABOUT CANNINGTON

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is a Permanent position on a 7:7 day/night roster, FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay Shires.

As the Auto Electrician, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and rebuilding surface and underground mobile mining equipment.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on heavy mobile equipment and plant, light vehicles, electric vehicles and forklifts.
• Attend to vehicle and equipment breakdowns.
• Maintain, diagnose and repair vehicle air-conditioning systems.
• Diagnose and repair faults on advanced auto electrical circuits.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Proficient with Caterpillar, Sandvik, Normet and/or Volvo underground mining equipment
• Skilled in fault-finding and diagnostics on advanced auto-electrical systems
• Experienced in servicing and repairing automotive air-conditioning systems
• Understanding of mobile mining equipment electrical systems and software
• Proactive and safety-focused, promoting safe work practices and risk reduction

Qualifications for this position are:

• Current C Class Drivers Licence
