Job summary

NextSense is seeking an Auslan Language Model to support Auslan development for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families, across our Macquarie centre and community settings. This permanent part-time role delivers Auslan sessions, models language, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of Auslan linguistics and grammar.
• Experience working with children and families, ideally within early intervention or education settings.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with children, families and colleagues.
• Strong Auslan communication skills and competent written English skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Sharing knowledge of Deaf Culture and the Deaf community with families, colleagues and the wider team.
• Being a positive Deaf role model for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and supporting families on their Auslan learning journey.
• Delivering and modelling Auslan during individual early intervention sessions and group programs.
• Working closely with Teachers of the Deaf, Allied Health professionals and Key Workers to plan and deliver engaging, goal-focused sessions.
• Supporting children's Auslan language development through storytelling, play-based learning and meaningful interactions.
• Creating opportunities for parents, families and staff to build their Auslan skills through formal and informal learning, including sign classes, voice-off events and individual coaching.
• Providing services across a range of settings, including NextSense centres, homes, schools and community environments.
• Preparing resources, contributing to the development of Auslan materials and supporting the organisation and sharing of NextSense Auslan resources.
• Maintaining accurate client records, case notes and administrative documentation in line with legislative and organisational requirements.
• Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality and family-centred services.
• Participating in mentoring, professional development and continuous improvement activities to strengthen service delivery.
