Job summary

Space Machines Company seeks an Astrodynamics Engineer to bring efficient orbital dynamics computations to our online systems. You will own outcomes end-to-end, including design, testing, and integration with back-end and front-end teams.

You will collaborate with the Guidance, Navigation and Control group and stay current with state-of-the-art orbital mechanics to drive robust, scalable solutions in a fast-growing space-tech startup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or related discipline
• 5+ years working with orbital mechanics delivering complex solutions
• Strong familiarity with propagation algorithms and tools
• Analytical, numerical and hybrid propagation algorithms
• GMAT, STK, MATLAB/Simulink
• Polyglot programming with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, Rust, C++, Elixir/Erlang
• Testing in a variety of environments/frameworks

Responsibilities

• Orbital Scenario Identification – identify orbital scenarios relevant to online Command and Control
• Solution Design & Testing – design and test solutions using analytical, numerical, hybrid methods and libraries
• Orbit Change Optimisation – determine efficient means of large orbit changes and trade-offs
• Verification & Validation – verify and validate proposed solutions
• Systems Integration – integrate solutions into online systems with backend/frontend teams
• GNC Collaboration – align with Guidance, Navigation and Control teams
• Staying Current – evaluate new techniques and tools to enhance capabilities
