Job summary

Arcadis Australia Pacific is seeking a Design Manager with highways and infrastructure expertise to lead complex multidisciplinary projects across transport planning and delivery. You will apply your technical depth in roads and highways engineering and drive digital delivery processes to ensure high-quality outcomes for clients in Australia.

Responsibilities include directing design teams, managing stakeholder relationships, mentoring staff, and securing opportunities through bids and tenders

Qualifications

• Relevant engineering degree with Chartered status or equivalent accreditation.
• Approximately 15+ years industry experience in transport infrastructure.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams for road/highway projects.
• Track record delivering complex highway infrastructure projects.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management, with client-facing ability.

• Provide leadership and technical direction, driving quality and culture.
• Implement project delivery best practice including risk and change management.
• Support financial and project management controls and client care.
• Drive project performance, bids, and tender submissions where appropriate.
• Develop people on projects by mentoring and setting stretch targets.

Role description:

Off the back of growing demand in our transport team and to support an exciting array of future projects, we are looking for a Design Manager with Highways and infrastructure industry experience to provide leadership across complex multidisciplinary projects. You will have a strong technical background in roads and highways engineering, have an in-depth understanding of digital delivery processes and have demonstrated leadership attributes in the delivery of major projects within Australia.

Role accountabilities:

• Providing sound and effective leadership by providing direction and technical advice, leading by example and championing a quality culture;
• Ability to effectively implement project delivery best practice in the following areas: risk and change management, planning, project set-up, common data environments (including BIM and doc control);
• Supporting effective financial and project management controls
• Working to ensure successful project outcomes, maximum client satisfaction, championing client care and proactively working with the client;
• Driving project performance, service delivery and technical and commercial outcomes and undertaking reviews, ensuring client delivery is above expectation;
• Seeking / pursuing design opportunities, and the preparation of bids and tender submissions;
• Developing people on projects by playing to their strengths and providing stretch targets to enable our people to reach their potential; and
• Manage, mentor and develop less experienced members of the Arcadis Civil Infrastructure team.
• Accountability for technical and program delivery

Qualifications & Experience:

First and foremost, you share our passion for improving quality of life. You are a seasoned design management professional with extensive experience in the transportation infrastructure market and come to us with:

• Relevant engineering degree with Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation;
• Approximately 15+ years industry experience
• Confident in leading multidisciplinary design teams for road and highway projects within a design and engineering consultancy environment;
• Demonstrated experience delivering complex highway infrastructure projects;
• Well-developed technical and commercial skills, with a sound knowledge of the industry and a demonstrated ability in securing opportunities;
• Excellent communication skills and strong stakeholder management experience and the ability to build credible, collaborative but influential relationships both internally and externally;
• Previous demonstrated experience in managing project teams;
• Experience in the successful delivery of projects for Main Roads Western Australia will be an advantage but is not essential.
