Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for an Associate Property Lawyer to join an elite Australian commercial law firm and work on some of the country’s most complex property transactions and development projects.

The firm has a national, multi-Partner property practice, but in this role you’ll work closely with one Partner across the entire transaction lifecycle. Rather than handling one narrow workstream across numerous concurrent deals for different Partners, you’ll contribute to the key commercial decisions and play a meaningful role throughout each transaction.

You’ll join a tight-knit Sydney team comprising several junior lawyers, a Senior Associate and the Partner you’ll report to. He is young, approachable and known for his collaborative management style, creating an environment where lawyers are supported when needed but trusted to manage their work without unnecessary hierarchy or micromanagement.

The work spans three broad areas. On capital transactions, you’ll advise major developers, institutional investors, property funds, REITs and financiers on acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and financing involving major retail, industrial, logistics and hotel assets. On development projects, you’ll work across large-scale mixed-use, build-to-rent, residential, hotel and urban renewal developments, including the associated construction arrangements. You’ll also advise on the ongoing use and operation of assets through leasing and fit‑out matters across Australia.

You’ll be involved from the early structuring and due diligence stages through negotiation, completion and post‑completion implementation, working directly with clients, counterparties, consultants and other advisers along the way. That continuity will give you a practical understanding of how major property transactions and developments come together, while strengthening your commercial judgement and negotiation skills.

This role will suit a Property Lawyer with approximately 3–5 years’ PAE gained in private practice and experience across commercial property transactions. You’ll be commercially minded, collaborative in your approach and comfortable taking ownership of your work.
