Job summary

The University of Canberra is seeking an experienced academic to join the Discipline of Speech Pathology as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor. The role focuses on teaching, research, and professional engagement, with opportunities for leadership and curriculum renewal.

Senior candidates may take on strategic leadership within the team and Faculty. Collaboration with industry partners and professional bodies will be a key part of the role, both locally and internationally.

Qualifications

• PhD in Speech Pathology or closely related field.
• Current eligibility for Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status with Speech Pathology Australia.
• Ability to contribute to teaching, research and engagement at scale.

About the role

The Faculty of Health is seeking an experienced academic to join our Discipline of Speech Pathology as a either Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor (ER/EF) pending experience level. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in advancing the discipline’s teaching, research, and professional engagement.

In this role, you will contribute to curriculum renewal and development, collaborate with the team to design innovative approaches to teaching delivery, and provide high-quality teaching within our Masters program. You will will also lead impactful research that strengthens the profession and community outcomes. The position provides the opportunity to foster strong relationships with industry partners, professional associations, and key stakeholders locally, nationally, and internationally to enhance the disciplines objectives.

For senior candidates, you will have the opportunity to take on leadership roles to provide strategic leadership within the speech pathology team and broader Faculty.

Key responsibilities

• Supporting students in both classroom and clinical environments
• Collaborating with colleagues to advance academic initiatives and research
• Delivering innovative, high-quality teaching in the Masters program and contribute to curriculum design.
• Developing and maintaining strong partnerships with industry, professional associations, and government stakeholders.
• Promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence
• Providing strategic leadership for the Discipline of Speech Pathology in education and research (for Level C & D).
• Mentoring and supporting academic staff to enhance teaching quality and research outcomes (for Level C & D).

You bring expertise in one or more of the focus areas listed above and a commitment to inclusive, evidence-based practice. The successful applicant will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and establish effective relationships with staff, students and industry stakeholders.

For Level C & D, a track record of internationally recognised research publications, higher degree research student supervision and success in securing grant funding will also be required.
