Job Overview

The Associate Medical Director is a key medical leader within IQVIA's Early Clinical Development business, providing medical, scientific, strategic, and sponsor-facing expertise across Phase I and early Phase II clinical trials in ANZ and APAC. The role supports study delivery and business growth, with a focus on first-in-human (FIH), healthy volunteer, and other early phase development programmes.

The successful candidate will provide medical oversight across the clinical trial lifecycle, including protocol and feasibility review, eligibility assessments, medical monitoring, safety signal evaluation, dose escalation and Safety Review Committee (SRC) support, clinical data review, and management of complex medical and scientific issues. Working closely with sponsors, investigators, project teams, and operational stakeholders, they will ensure participant safety, scientific integrity, regulatory compliance, and successful study execution.

The role also supports business development through feasibility assessments, request-for-proposal (RFP) responses, sponsor strategy discussions, bid defences, and development of medical and scientific solutions for complex early phase programmes. This position offers significant sponsor exposure and the opportunity to influence development strategies across a diverse portfolio of innovative therapies.

The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical judgement, early phase drug development experience, and the ability to provide pragmatic, risk-based medical guidance in complex stakeholder environments. Desirable expertise includes dose escalation strategies, safety data review, Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) interpretation, biomarker-driven development, adaptive trial designs, and collaboration with clinical research units and investigational sites.

Success in this role requires strong communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills, together with a collaborative, proactive, and solutions-oriented approach. The position is well suited to individuals who are passionate about early phase drug development and motivated to contribute to both study delivery and business growth.

  • Act as a scientific partner to sponsors, investigators, and study teams, delivering expert medical guidance and strategic input for early phase development programmes.

  • Provide medical support on protocol interpretation, eligibility assessments, safety management, dose escalation decisions, and other protocol-related issues.

  • Review and contribute to study protocols, informed consent forms, Investigator's Brochures, case report forms, clinical study reports, patient narratives, and other key study documents.

  • Conduct ongoing medical monitoring, including review of adverse events, serious adverse events, emerging safety signals, and clinically significant findings.

  • Support SRCs, Dose Escalation Committees, and other governance activities through presentation and interpretation of clinical and safety data.

  • Work closely with Pharmacovigilance and project teams on safety evaluations, medical reviews, analysis of similar events, and participant safety activities.

  • Deliver therapeutic area and protocol-specific training to project teams, investigators, and study personnel.

  • Support protocol development and study design, particularly for FIH, healthy volunteer, and other early phase studies.

Sponsor and Business Development Support
  • Contribute medical and scientific expertise to feasibility assessments, proposal development, bid defences, and other business development activities.

  • Participate in sponsor strategy discussions and provide scientifically sound solutions for complex development programmes.

  • Represent IQVIA as a medical and scientific expert during client interactions, investigator meetings, bid defences, and other sponsor-facing activities.
