Job description

Are you looking to take the next step in your risk career and play an active role in shaping how we safeguard our clients and our platform?

An exciting opportunity is available for an energetic, commercially minded risk professional to join our Wealth Distribution Risk team as an Associate Manager. In this high-visibility role, you will be a vital gatekeeper and strategic partner within Banking and Financial Services (BFS) Wealth Division, helping oversee, evaluate, and mitigate risk across our expansive third-party and adviser network.

Stepping beyond routine operational execution, you will look at the bigger picture - connecting data trends, operational workflows, and regulatory developments to solve complex problems and drive continuous framework improvements. You will work closely with Senior Managers, Product Owners, Operations, and Data Specialists to protect our clients, while supporting sustainable business growth.

We are a global financial services group operating in 30 markets with 57 years of unbroken profitability. At Macquarie, you’re empowered to shape a career that is fulfilling and creates value. You will bring your insights and expertise to the task at hand and feel supported as you make your own kind of impact for a better future.

What role will you play?

As an Associate Manager, you will bring critical thinking, sound judgment, and initiative to third-party distribution governance. Your key focus areas will include:

Risk Governance & Strategic Oversight
  • Holistic Risk Identification: Step back from daily tasks to identify systemic trends, data anomalies, emerging fraud risks, and regulatory changes impacting third-party distribution and adviser relationships.
  • Sound Judgment & Problem Solving: Apply professional experience and commercial judgment to make informed, timely decisions on non-standard escalations, suspicious transaction patterns, and adverse findings.
  • Continuous Improvement: Offer original ideas and fresh perspectives to enhance our distribution risk framework, monitoring controls, and adviser oversight playbooks.
  • Embedding a proactive risk culture: Lead by example to drive accountability, end-to-end ownership, and sound risk execution.
  • Govern & challenge: Champion rigorous governance and deliver effective challenge across operational risk frameworks.
Data-Driven Insights & Analytics
  • Investigate Gaps & Inconsistencies: Dig beneath surface-level metrics to uncover data gaps or inconsistencies across onboarding pipelines and ongoing monitoring channels, sourcing complementary data when required.
  • Data Partnership: Collaborate closely with Data and Analytics teams to evolve fit-for-purpose risk indicators, automated triggers, and interactive dashboards that provide actionable risk insights.
  • Executive & Management Reporting: Synthesise complex risk datasets into clear, concise, and high-impact reporting for senior leadership, highlighting key exposure areas and recommended treatments.
  • Operationalise regulatory guidance: Transform complex standards into pragmatic, high-integrity workflows.
  • Optimise control effectiveness: Stress-test and implement controls that decisively prevent and detect operational risks.
Stakeholder Engagement & Delivery
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders across Product, Compliance, Legal, and Operations to champion a strong risk culture, resolve blockers, and align outcomes with client interests.
  • Initiative & Project Leadership: Take ownership of complex deliverables across tactical enhancements and multi-team strategic projects, anticipating obstacles and adjusting delivery plans to consistently hit milestones.
What you offer
  • Relevant Experience: 3–5+ years of risk consulting experience within wealth management, financial advice platforms (Wrap/IDPS), third-party risk management, compliance, or operational risk.
  • Analytical Mindset: Proven ability to connect disparate data points, question assumptions, evaluate risks objectively, and translate complex findings into structured, practical solutions.
  • Drive & Adaptability: High self-motivation with a track record of setting challenging targets, adapting smoothly to shifting business priorities, and maintaining performance under pressure.
  • Clear, Influential Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging across diverse audiences and engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Ownership & Delivery Focus: Strong personal accountability, disciplined workload prioritisation, and the foresight to anticipate potential roadblocks before they impact delivery.
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Commerce, Law, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent practical industry experience).
