Job summary

HDR is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer to join the National Building Engineering Services team in Sydney, NSW. You will lead the design and delivery of mission critical projects and provide technical leadership across the project lifecycle.

You’ll mentor engineers, engage with clients, and contribute to business development while building capability within HDR’s national electrical practice.

Qualifications

  • Chartership with Engineers Australia (CPEng)
  • Typically 12+ years of electrical design experience in a consulting environment
  • Consulting experience is essential
  • Strong track record leading electrical discipline delivery on complex projects
  • Hands‑on involvement in design and delivery
  • Strong understanding of Australian codes and standards including IEC/IEEE/TIA-942
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
  • Experience delivering building services (MEP) across all design stages
  • Experience with project financials, resource planning and delivery management

The Role

HDR is seeking an experienced Associate Electrical Engineer to join our National Building Engineering Services (BES) team.

With a focus on delivering complex mission critical and data centre projects across Australia and the broader region, this is an opportunity for an experienced consulting engineer who enjoys combining technical leadership with project delivery, client engagement and team development.

In the role of Associate Electrical Engineer, we’ll count on you to:

Lead the design and delivery of mission critical and data centre projects, supporting clients through all stages of the project lifecycle.

Act as a trusted technical advisor, providing design oversight, technical assurance and quality leadership.

Drive successful project outcomes through effective multidisciplinary collaboration.

Lead the resolution of complex technical challenges involving power distribution, resilience, system integration and energy efficiency.

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.

Support business development activities including proposals, tenders and technical presentations.

Mentor and develop engineers, contributing to capability building and the continued growth of the Melbourne electrical practice.

Take on Project Leader responsibilities, managing project delivery, coordination, programme and performance.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Chartership with Engineers Australia (CPEng)
  • Typically, 12+ years’ experience in electrical design within a consulting environment
  • Consulting experience is essential.
  • Strong track record in leading electrical discipline delivery on complex projects
  • Proven experience maintaining hands‑on technical involvement in design and delivery
  • Strong understanding of relevant Australian codes, standards, and regulatory requirements including IEC, IEEE and TIA-942
  • Experience in coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
  • Proven experience delivering building services (MEP) projects across all design stages
  • Experience in client relationship management and stakeholder engagement
  • Experience with project financials, resource planning, and delivery management

Proficiency in software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio, ETAP, Vipcodia, PowerCad (or similar)
