Job summary

Rapid7’s Melbourne-based SOC team seeks an Associate SOC Analyst to review alerts and identify malicious activity in client environments. You will guide investigations from evidence collection to root-cause analysis and document technical findings with remediation steps.

You will collaborate with Customer Advisors, contribute to knowledge capture, and provide operational feedback to product teams, helping to elevate our security services across APAC.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of cybersecurity experience, ideally in a SOC or SIEM role.

We are seeking someone with a passion for cyber security to join us in Melbourne. As a SOC Analyst with Rapid7 you will work with Rapid7's advanced tools to investigate and triage high priority security events.

About the Team

Rapid7 Managed Detection and Response (MDR) is built from the ground up to bring motivated and passionate security talent face to face with emerging threats, practical challenges, and evil at scale.

Our MDR service uses an impact-driven mindset to focus efforts on effective solutions, encouraging personal and technical innovation within the SOC. MDR provides 24/7/365 monitoring, threat hunting, incident response, and more with a focus on endpoint detection and behavioral intelligence.

About the Role

As an Associate SOC Analyst you will be responsible for reviewing alert data to identify malicious activity in customer environments. You will be empowered to steer investigations which include everything from evidence acquisition and analysis to figuring out how the intrusion began to identifying any malicious or unexpected activity related to the event. Specifically, your focus will be to:

  • Deliver world-class threat detection services using traditional threat intelligence-based detection and user behavior analytics.
  • Conduct or assist with Rapid7 incident response investigations, steering evidence acquisition and root-cause analysis.
  • Write detailed findings reports for investigations, documenting technical analysis and remediation recommendations for customers.
  • Communicate effectively with Customer Advisors on client Requests For Information and investigation findings.
  • Assist in capturing and deploying knowledge of attack methodologies to elevate team capability.
  • Provide continuous input and operational feedback to Rapid7 product development teams.
The skills and qualities you'll bring include
  • Bring 1-2 years of experience in a cybersecurity-related position, with dedicated SOC or SIEM analysis experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems alongside core security concepts such as lateral movement, privilege escalation, persistence, and command and control.
  • Show practical hands-on experience participating and succeeding in cybersecurity challenges such as CTFs, HTB, Rastalabs, or Pentesting with Kali Labs.
  • Utilize scripting and coding ability to automate tasks, analyze data, and solve complex technical problems.
  • Bring a creative approach to critical problem-solving with an insatiable curiosity to learn and grow within a dedicated security role.
  • Prioritize customer success by putting client needs at the forefront of technical recommendations and investigative reporting.
  • Hold self and others responsible for driving outcomes and meeting commitments that deliver value for the business and our customers by establishing clear expectations.
  • Make efficient decisions that resolve challenges and enable momentum, integrating diverse perspectives and ensuring transparency in the process.
