Job summary

Macpherson Kelley in Sydney invites applications for a part-time Associate role in our Commercial team. You will build trusted client relationships across charity and not-for-profit matters, including contract drafting, governance and structuring, and M&A.

Working with senior lawyers, you will develop technical capability, client relationships and judgement while taking ownership of matters. The role offers flexible working and structured career progression via the Macpherson Kelley Business

Qualifications

• Minimum of four years PAE working in commercial law.
• Ability to manage client relationships and act as a trusted contact.
• Exposure to charity/not-for-profit advisory work is desirable.
• Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with clients and support senior lawyers across commercial matters.
• Draft and negotiate contracts, governance and structuring work.
• Assist on mergers and acquisitions and IP/IT matters.
• Work collaboratively in a flexible, fast-paced environment and take ownership of matters.

The Opportunity

Join Macpherson Kelley’s Sydney Commercial team in a unique part-time (3 days per week) Associate opportunity, where you'll build trusted client relationships, work across a diverse range of commercial and corporate matters and be supported by experienced senior lawyers within a well-respected national firm.

You will work across a broad mix of commercial matters with a particular focus on charity and not‑for‑profit clients, including contract drafting and negotiation, governance and structuring, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property and information technology.

Working closely with experienced senior lawyers, you will be supported to build your technical capability, client relationships and commercial judgement while taking ownership of matters and enjoying the variety and pace of a flexible working environment. You’ll also benefit from structured career progression and ongoing development through the Macpherson Kelley Business School.

About You

You will ideally have

• A minimum of four years PAE working in commercial law;
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and act as a trusted point of contact;
• Exposure to, or an interest in, charity and not‑for‑profit advisory work;
• The ability to manage competing priorities, work autonomously where appropriate and collaborate effectively with the team;
• Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, with sound commercial judgement;
• A strong commitment to excellent client service.
