Job summary

Ritchie Bros. is seeking an Assistant Yard Manager to support the Yard Manager in ensuring the main auction site and off-site locations run smoothly and safely.

You will coordinate site preparation, yard layout and equipment readiness, supervise yard staff, manage schedules, and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental policies.

Qualifications

• EH&S experience required.
• Mechanical aptitude essential for handling yard equipment.
• Experience with equipment repair and refurbishment.
• Inventory management experience.
• Part sourcing and procurement experience.
• Experience supervising multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience with industrial or agricultural equipment.
• Cost management background preferred.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with computers and quick to learn new software.
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate site preparation, auction ramp and loading ramp.
• Oversee yard layout and equipment lineup.
• Ensure sale site is safe and up to Ritchie Bros. standards.
• Ensure adherence to environmental regulations of the sale location.
• Plan refurbishing schedule and budget; manage purchase orders and cost sheets.
• Liaise with subcontractors.
• Ensure equipment is sale-ready.
• Arrange directional, parking and yard signs.
• Ensure proper attachment removal.
• Ensure equipment has fuel, oil and antifreeze.
• Organize yard supplies per check list.
• Supervise operators and yard staff daily, including scheduling casual staff on sale day.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with health, safety and environmental policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• The major responsibility of the Assistant Yard Managers is to assist the Yard Manager in ensuring that the main auction site and off-site locations run smoothly and safely.

Qualifications

• EH&S experience.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Equipment Repair & Refurbishment experience.
• Inventory management.
• Part sourcing & procurement (negotiation skills).
• Previous experience managing or supervising multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience with industrial and / or agricultural equipment, trucks and trailers.
• Previous cost management experience, and a background in business fundamentals and business financial knowledge is preferred.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proven experience providing excellent customer service to customers and colleagues.
• Strong computer skills, including the ability to learn new programs.
• Top-notch written and verbal communication skills (on this job your most valuable tools will be the 2-way radio, a cell phone and a computer).
• Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

• Ensure equipment is in sale-ready condition.
• Arrange directional, parking and yard signs.
• Ensure proper attachment removal.
• Ensure equipment has fuel, oil and anti-freeze.
• Organize yard supplies per check list.
• Responsible for daily Supervision of operators and yard staff including scheduling of day of sale casual staff.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with all corporate and legislated health and safety and environmental policies, regulations and laws.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
