Qualifications

• Graduate Certificate in Religious Education is required or essential.
• Master's degree in Religious Education, Theology, or Catholic Educational Leadership (or equivalent) is preferred or encouraged.
• Active member of a Catholic Eucharistic community and commitment to Catholic teachings.

Responsibilities

• Lead Religious Education curriculum development and implementation (Journey in Faith, Made in the Image of God Human Sexuality Program).
• Coordinate liturgies, prayer, and faith celebrations for students and staff.
• Support sacramental preparation programs in partnership with parish leadership.
• Lead retreat programs for students and staff and promote ongoing faith formation for staff.
• Ensure accreditation requirements are met and strengthen Catholic identity across the school.
• Embed local Aboriginal knowledge, spirituality, and culture within the Religious Education curriculum.
• Undertake teaching allocation alongside leadership responsibilities.

REC SALARY: CT LEVEL + $19,603 REC ALLOWANCE

APRE SALARY: $157,919 to $159,324 (depending on Master's completion)

The School

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic College, Alice Springs, caters for students from ELC to Year 12, with students located across three campuses: ELC to Year 4 at Bath Street (where this role is based), Year 5 to Year 8 at Traeger Avenue and Year 9 to Year 12 at Sadadeen Road. The College is a systemic Catholic school responsible to the Northern Territory Catholic Education Office, in the tradition of the Marist Brothers, under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Darwin.

The Position

The Assistant Principal Religious Education (APRE) / Religious Education Coordinator (REC) shares responsibility with the Principal for spiritual and theological leadership, faith formation, and embedding Catholic and local Aboriginal perspectives across the curriculum. This position is based at the Bath Street campus, serving students from ELC transition to Year 4. This executive role leads Religious Education, liturgy, faith formation, and Catholic identity, and is open to practising Catholics committed to the Catholic faith.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of the Religious Education curriculum, including Journey in Faith, and the Made in the Image of God Human Sexuality Program.
• Work collaboratively with staff to support effective planning, delivery, and evaluation of Religious Education teaching and learning.
• Coordinate and lead liturgies, prayer, and faith celebrations for students and staff.
• Support the parish in the leadership and implementation of Sacramental preparation programs.
• Lead the development and delivery of retreat programs for students and staff.
• Promote and encourage ongoing professional development and faith formation opportunities for staff.
• Provide leadership in meeting accreditation requirements and strengthening Catholic identity across the school.
• Build the capacity of teachers and local Aboriginal staff to embed local knowledge, spirituality, and culture within the Religious Education curriculum.
• Undertake an ongoing classroom teaching allocation alongside leadership responsibilities.

• Demonstrate contemporary pedagogical practice in Religious Education relevant to the cultural context of the school community.
• Possess highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
• Hold a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education and be completing, or willing to work towards, a Master's degree in Religious Education, Theology, or Catholic Educational Leadership (or equivalent).
