Job summary

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Assistant Manager, Specialist Response Unit to provide a critical role within the Post Sentence Branch. The role oversees service functions and leads key negotiations with Victoria Police and other Corrections Victoria areas to ensure compliance with procedures and legislation.

It requires experience in complex service delivery, stakeholder engagement, and managing relationships with high-profile individuals, with a focus on governance

Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor operational service functions for the Specialist Response Unit and ensure these functions are consistent with operating procedures, agency agreements, legislative requirements and the Serious Offenders Act 2018.
• Support the coordination of monitoring strategies for supervision order offenders with Victoria Police and other Corrections Victoria business areas including the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit and the Electronic Monitoring Program.
• Establish effective communication strategies with senior stakeholders and agency partners including Victoria Police, Post Sentence Authority, Community Correctional Services and other service providers (this may also include some travel to regional areas).

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Assistant Manager, Specialist Response Unit to provide a critical role within the Post Sentence Branch.

About the Business Unit

Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult corrections system, including Community Correctional Services across more than 50 locations, and manages 11 public prisons, one transition centre, and oversees three privately operated prisons. It ensures prisoners are safely and securely contained and aims to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

The Community Operations and Offender Services Division of Corrections Victoria is responsible for providing best practice interventions which aim to reduce the risk of reoffending including quality assurance systems for risk assessment and case management, offending behaviour programs, and transition and reintegration supports. The Community Operations and Offender Services Division has responsibility for the post-sentence supervision scheme and is also responsible for the Secretariat of the Victorian Adult Parole Board.

The Post Sentence Branch, within the Community Operations and Offender Services Division of Corrections Victoria, provides central oversight and governance of the post sentence scheme and offenders subject to post sentence orders. The Serious Offenders Act 2018 sets out a civil, non-punitive scheme that provides for the ongoing supervision or detention of serious sex and/or serious violent offenders who have completed their sentence and pose an unacceptable risk of committing further relevant offences. Corrections Victoria's end-to-end management and delivery of services to serious offenders on post-sentence orders occurs through a multi-faceted governance and operating model.

About the Role

The Assistant Manager, Specialist Response Unit oversees the service functions of the unit and has a key role in the complex and sensitive negotiations with Victoria Police and other Corrections Victoria business areas as required. The role will also lead the Senior Coordinator, Specialist Response Unit and provide guidance and advice to others in the Post Sentence Branch as required.

Some of your duties will include:

• Manage and monitor operational service functions for the Specialist Response Unit and ensure these functions are consistent with operating procedures, agency agreements, legislative requirements and the Serious Offenders Act 2018.
• Support the coordination of monitoring strategies for supervision order offenders with Victoria Police and other Corrections Victoria business areas including the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit and the Electronic Monitoring Program.
