Assistant Director Talent and Attraction

$132,408 – $147,919 per year + super and LL

Lead a team of talent acquisition officers to support Northern Territory government schools in attracting and recruiting high-quality classroom teachers to build and sustain a strong and capable workforce.

The Department of Education and Training delivers, supports, and regulates early childhood, school education, and training services across all Northern Territory government schools with a large proportion of these located in remote or very remote communities. Talent, Attraction and Recruitment sits within the School Leadership Culture and Care team and comprises of 13 staff dedicated to supporting principals to attract and recruit classroom teachers for Northern Territory public schools.

Key duties and responsibilities

Lead, mentor and manage the Talent Acquisition Team to provide end to end recruitment processes, ensuring a positive experience for schools and candidates.

Maintain strong, diverse talent pipelines to meet current and future classroom teacher hiring needs.

Develop and deliver innovative projects and initiatives to build a high-quality educator workforce across Northern Territory Government schools.

Lead and coordinate workforce support and systems for talent acquisition activities in line with current legislation, policies, and processes.

Prepare complex reports, Ministerial responses and speeches, correspondence and recommendations with the ability to influence and negotiate successful outcomes for attraction and recruitment of staff.

Research, analysis and reporting on current and emerging national and local education workforce trends to inform the strategic direction and the development of evidence-based initiatives.

Contemporary knowledge and experience of talent, attraction and recruitment practices, including building talent pipelines and sourcing strategies.

Proven ability to build and sustain partnerships with internal, external, local and national level stakeholders to achieve outcomes aligned to agency priorities and the successful delivery of programs and initiatives.

Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage a small team in a complex environment.

Strong written communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in the preparation of high level strategic advice and support, briefings, reports and other detailed correspondence.

Ability to identify emerging challenges and opportunities, anticipate priorities, and work collaboratively and strategically to develop solutions and long-term plans for the team.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds and embed cultural responsiveness in planning, attracting, recruiting, and deploying education workforce resources.

Relevant tertiary qualification in human resources, business and/or marketing.

Knowledge of current and emerging labour market issues, risks and opportunities for the agency and sound knowledge of contemporary public sector human resources management and recruitment.
