Job summary

Verbrec is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Brisbane CBD head office in a hybrid role (60/40). You will support the finance team with month-end close, end-of-year activities, and a variety of accounting tasks to help drive our energy transition objectives.

You should have 2+ years in accounts payable/receivable, experience with Workday or similar systems, and strong Excel skills. The role offers growth opportunities within a collaborative, safety-focused company.

Qualifications

• More than 2 years’ experience in accounts payable and receivable functions.
• Experience with Workday or similar finance systems preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in MS Excel and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Support month end close and end-of-year processes.
• Prepare month end journals, reports and reconciliations.
• Handle payroll accruals and related journals.
• Maintain bank reconciliations and balance sheets.
• Assist with BAS/Payroll tax reconciliations and superannuation entries.

As an Assistant Accountant, you will support the finance team in finalising end-of-month and end-of-year accounts, and other administrative duties as required by senior accountants through the preparation of month end journals, reports and reconciliations.

The key responsibilities for this role include:

• Month end reporting tasks (including but not limited to):
  • Payroll accruals and standard fortnightly journals for actual pays (include AL/LSL).
  • Notify and follow up with AR/AP with unreconciled items.
  • Follow up unallocated banking balance.
  • Post manual bank journals as required.
  • Complete interest expense accrual Journal for borrowings (Equipment Loan, Insurance Premium and Bank Loan).
  • Post Equipment Loan/Bank Loan - reclassify current/non-current.
  • Update bank guarantee listing and email bank guarantee report.
  • BT & BAS Preparation, lodgement, and payment.
  • Payroll tax reconciliations
  • Superannuation reconciliations and journals.
• Month end journals & balance sheet reconciliations as allocated under the group register

To be successful you will have:

• More than 2 years’ experience in accounts payable and receivable functions
• Previous finance systems experience ("Workday" is preferred).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines
• Ability to lead meetings and ensure outcomes are met and actions delivered
• Ability to demonstrate a practical commitment to exceeding customer expectations through anticipating and understanding their needs - internal and external focus.
• Flexible and willingness to learn new skills and gain new experience.
• Ability to analyse problems and initiate/ work towards solutions.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines.
• Advanced MS Excel skills.
