Simplot is committed to developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople and prides itself on providing a supportive training environment. As part of our 2027 apprenticeship programme, we are seeking highly motivated applicants for the role of Apprentice Maintenance Electrician.


This role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to learn an electrical trade and to work with a unique range of equipment at our Bathurst-based food manufacturing facility. Upon successful completion of this 4-year apprenticeship, the Apprentice will obtain a nationally recognised qualification - Cert III Electrotechnology.


We strive to give our Apprentices the leading edge in developing a diverse skill set in the electrical trade. With base rates of up to 58% higher than the applicable award, and Simplot providing the successful candidate with a tool kit as a gesture of welcome - we ensure our apprentices are set up for success from day one!


What You Will Do

Working as part of our highly skilled Maintenance Electrical team on a Monday-Friday day shift roster, this apprenticeship will provide exposure to all facets of the electrotechnology trade within a busy FMCG manufacturing environment. Duties will include, but are not limited to:



  • Contributing to safety initiatives and maintaining a 100% commitment to safety, health and wellbeing in the workplace

  • Learning industry best practice in preventative maintenance and breakdown repair of electrical equipment and control systems

  • Attending mandatory TAFE training blocks throughout the apprenticeship

  • Developing problem-solving and fault-finding skills

  • Using a variety of hand tools and equipment

  • Using CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)

  • Developing skills in process automation and instrumentation

  • Collaborating with Maintenance, Engineering and Production teams on maintenance activities

  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives

  • The opportunity to learn about, work on and maintain a broad range of manufacturing equipment and systems, including:

  • Material handling and conveying systems

  • High-speed packaging and palletising equipment

  • Production and process machinery

  • Pumps, motors, gearboxes and drive systems

  • Pneumatic and hydraulic systems

  • Refrigeration and site utility services

  • Automation, control and monitoring systems


About You


  • A strong commitment to health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace

  • Ideally, you will have completed a school-based electrical qualification, such as a Cert II in Electrotechnology

  • A genuine interest in electrical systems, electronics, automation or industrial technology

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to learning

  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills

  • Intermediate computer skills, including experience using Windows-based systems

  • Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency (we are unable to consider candidates on temporary visas)

  • Ability to commence full-time employment in late December 2026 / early January 2027

  • A current driver's licence, or a Learner Permit with plans to obtain your P-Plates in the near future

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people

  • Commitment to completing a 4-year apprenticeship

  • Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment, including a urine-based drug and alcohol screen
