Job summary

RW Joiners in Toowoomba offers a full-time apprenticeship to become a skilled joiner in a genuine family-owned workshop. You will learn traditional joinery, timber identification, and on-site installation on varied projects for clients with high standards.

We provide Certificate III in Joinery through TAFE Queensland, a 38-hour week with Friday early finish, and above-award wages with overtime. Adult apprentices welcome; drivers license required and willing to travel for installations.

Job description

Start a trade in a genuine custom, local, family-owned joinery workshop. RW Joiners is taking on a first-year Apprentice Joiner for a full-time apprenticeship in our Toowoomba workshop. Adult apprentices are welcome to apply. You will learn custom solid-timber joinery, on varied one-off projects for clients with high standards and commercial properties.

You will learn

• Safe use of hand tools, portable tools and workshop machinery as your competence grows.
• Timber identification, selection and machining.
• Traditional joinery, including mortise-and-tenon construction.
• Manufacture of timber doors and windows, curved work and mouldings, and more.
• Reading shop drawings and cutting lists, and installing on site.

What you need to bring

• A genuine interest in becoming a skilled Joiner.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality and a willingness to work.
• Attention to detail, patience and care with materials.
• Willingness to listen, accept correction and ask questions.
• Commitment to attend all TAFE blocks and complete all bookwork and assessments.
• Reliable transport to the workshop. Drivers license is required.
• Willingness to work overtime and work away from Toowoomba for onsite installs (living away allowances paid). Occasional weekend work may be required, dependent upon work deadlines.
• Any previous trade or construction experience.
• A White Card. We arrange the course before your first site visit.
• A full toolkit. You buy tools progressively, with guidance and some tools are provided.

What we offer

• Certificate III in Joinery through TAFE Queensland in Brisbane. Time at TAFE is paid as a normal working day.
• A 38-hour week with a 1:00 pm Friday finish.
• Above the award apprentice wages, with penalty rates for overtime and time living away from home.
