Apprentice - Gardener

Full-time – Fixed-term (4 years)

Position Number: 4245, 4248 Location: Queanbeyan

The Package: $874.80 - $1,285.76 gross per week + 12% super. (Evaluated as Trainee Grade 4-10 of the QPRC Salary System 2025), plus potential performance-based progression.

Full-time – 38 hours per week. 9-day fortnight conditions will apply.

Roll up your sleeves and help keep Queanbeyan’s parks looking their best. Council is seeking an Apprentice Gardener to join our Urban Landscapes team. This is a hands‑on role where you'll train alongside experienced horticulturists and work towards earning a free Cert III in Parks and Gardens, paid by Council.

In this role you will:
  • Assist to maintain and manage gardens, turf and plantings across award-winning parks and public spaces to keep them healthy, safe and attractive.
  • Support horticulture preparation and ongoing maintenance tasks, including general gardening, turf care, pruning and tree maintenance.
  • Help with irrigation maintenance, weed control, litter collection and minor parks construction and landscaping works.
We are looking for someone who:
  • Is eligible for enrolment and ongoing study requirements to complete a Cert III in Parks and Gardens.
  • Has strong communication and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Can work independently and as a part of a team.
