Job summary

St John of God Social Outreach in Western Australia seeks an experienced Alcohol and Drug Counsellor to provide assessment, counselling and follow-up support for clients with substance use issues. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based interventions and develop tailored treatment plans.

Qualifications

• Experience in drug/alcohol and/or mental health settings.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Current Driver’s Licence C class.
• National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, counselling and follow-up support for substance use issues.
• Develop individual treatment plans in collaboration with clients.
• Deliver evidence-based counselling and therapeutic interventions.
• Deliver brief interventions and ongoing follow-up.
• Apply harm minimisation approaches to client care.
• Utilise motivational interviewing, cognitive restructuring and social learning techniques.
• Manage risk and respond to complex client needs.
• Refer clients to appropriate health, community and human service providers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate client records and contribute to service development.
