Job summary

Therapy & Support Animals Australia (TASAA) is a specialised canine training facility in Samford Valley, North Brisbane. We are seeking a reliable kennel hand for a job-share arrangement with early 6:00 am starts and potential longer shifts based on dogs in care.

Role involves caring for puppies and dogs, monitoring health and behaviour, maintaining clean kennels, and following infection-control procedures. Must be able to lift up to 20 kg and work weekends.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality daily care, including feeding, exercise, safe handling and monitoring of puppies and dogs.
• Observe and report changes in health, appetite, toileting, behaviour or general wellbeing.
• Follow individual care instructions and kennel routines accurately.
• Clean and disinfect kennels, equipment, training spaces and facilities to a high standard.
• Maintain safe, hygienic living areas and follow infection-control procedures.
• Work as part of a team and independently to complete tasks on time.

Job description

We are seeking a reliable, experienced and hardworking kennel hand to join our team in a job-share arrangement. TASAA is a specialised canine training facility located in beautiful Samford Valley, North Brisbane, approximately 40 minutes by car from Brisbane CBD. Morning shifts commence at 6:00 am and generally finish between 9:00 am and 10:00 am. Some shifts may run later, depending on the number of dogs in our care and the work required. Our facility operates seven days a week. This is a job-share position, so applicants must be willing to share shifts across the weekly roster, including weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high-quality daily care, including feeding, exercise, safe handling and monitoring of puppies and dogs
• Observe and promptly report changes in health, appetite, toileting, behaviour or general wellbeing
• Follow individual animal care instructions, feeding plans and established kennel routines accurately
• Clean and disinfect kennels, equipment, training spaces and surrounding facilities to a consistently high standard
• Maintain safe, comfortable and hygienic living areas and follow infection-control procedures
• Work effectively as part of a team and independently when required, ensuring all tasks are completed on time

About you

• Proven practical experience in canine handling and animal husbandry, with a clear understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities of a kennel hand
• Sound understanding of canine body language, behaviour and signs of stress, discomfort or illness
• Confidence handling dogs of different ages, breeds, sizes and temperaments
• Excellent attention to detail, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to animal welfare
• A positive, respectful attitude, clear communication skills and the initiative to work with minimal supervision
• Physical fitness for an active, hands‑on role, including safe lifting of up to 20 kg and working in varying weather conditions
• Exceptional reliability and punctuality, with availability for early morning and weekend shifts
• A current driver's licence and reliable personal transport
