Job summary

Auto & General is seeking a skilled Web Developer to build out digital experiences for customers to buy and manage policies online. You will contribute to internal tools used by staff and work in cross-functional agile teams powered by a product owner.

The role involves delivering high-quality software in a DevOps/CI environment on AWS, with opportunities to influence design and architecture while collaborating with developers, testers and agile practitioners across multiple Brisbane-area

Qualifications

• 4+ years software development or equivalent industry experience.
• Excellent knowledge of modern front-end architecture.
• Experience with application and system monitoring tools.
• Experience with AWS Developer Tools and Docker-based cloud deployments.
• Strong understanding of web application security implications (OWASP).
• Familiarity with Atlassian toolchain (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop fit-for-purpose solutions to achieve sprint goals.
• Lead solution designs and development of modern architecture.
• Help build out CI/CD pipeline and AWS deployment infrastructure.
• Take ownership of the product and contribute improvement ideas.
• Establish and own best-practice testing across unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
• Collaborate within a cross-functional Agile team and support deployment activities.

Your new team

This role is a key Web development role building out the best digital online experience for Auto and General’s customers. You will be building out applications to allow customers to buy and manage their policies online. Also contributing to the development of internal applications used by our staff to support the business operations.

The role will be working in one of several cross functional agile teams, supported by a product owner. All software is delivered via agile teams and deployed via a modern DevOps/CI pipeline to AWS.

This role will be working within a large team, consisting of developers, testers and agile practitioners in one of Auto and General’s three fantastic locations of Toowong, Kawana or North Lakes.

The role

• Design and develop fit-for-purpose solutions to achieve sprint goals and deliver value to our business partners.
• Leverage your experience to lead solution designs and development of our modern architecture.
• Help build out our CI/CD pipeline and AWS deployment infrastructure.
• Take ownership of the product, contribute improvement and innovation ideas.
• Establish and own best practice testing across unit, integration and end to end tests.
• Work collaboratively within a cross functional Agile team, contributing to development, deployment and support activities as required.
• Perform other reasonable and relevant activities as requested from time to time to meet operational requirements

What experience you’ll bring

• At least 4+ years of Software Development or relevant industry experience
• Excellent knowledge of modern front-end architecture
• Experience in or knowledge of application and system monitoring tools
• Experience with AWS Developer Tools and ecosystem, as well as Cloud deployment with Docker
• Deep knowledge of and adherence to software application security implications for web applications (e.g., OWASP)
• Ability to work in the Atlassian suite of products. JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket and Bamboo

Advantageous:

• Familiarity with other modern web frameworks such as React or Vue
• Experience in or knowledge of GitLab DevOps Platform
• A background in financial services applications is an advantage

This role is available at any of our Brisbane and Sunshine Coast locations providing flexibility to choose the office that suits you. Our Toowong office is close to the city with easy public transport and parking options while our North Lakes offices are within walking distance of some of the north side’s best retail locations. If you love a view of the water, why not consider our Kawana office on the edge of Lake Kawana and only a five minute drive to the closest beach.
