The opportunity

Working in the Department of Treasury and Finance’s Economic Policy team, you will contribute directly to advice on some of the Northern Territory’s most significant economic, commercial and regulatory issues.

This role offers early responsibility, genuine influence and exposure to senior decision makers. You will help shape advice to senior executives, the Treasurer and Cabinet — providing exposure and responsibility that often exceeds expectations for this career stage.

If you are looking to deepen your skills, broaden your experience and accelerate your development, this role offers a rare combination of responsibility, variety and impact.

Why this role is different
  • Breadth and impact - You will work across a wide range of economic, regulatory and commercial issues, rather than being confined to a narrow policy niche.
  • Early exposure - You will contribute to high level advice and major reform work that is typically reserved for more senior roles elsewhere.
  • Career acceleration - The pace, variety and responsibility of this role provide strong foundations for progression within Treasury, across government, or into senior advisory roles.
  • Support and development - You’ll be part of a high performing team that values learning, structured on the job development, and formal training.
  • Lifestyle benefits - Enjoy a short commute, a warm climate, generous leave (including six weeks annual leave), and access to some of Australia’s most unique natural environments.
About the role

As an Analyst, you will research and analyse complex economic, commercial and regulatory issues affecting the Territory. You will support the development of evidence based policy advice, prepare high quality briefings and reports, and work closely with stakeholders across Treasury and other agencies.

This role will suit someone who enjoys problem solving, thinks critically, and can distil complex information into clear, practical advice.

About you

You will bring:

  • Strong research and analytical skills applied to economic, regulatory or commercial issues
  • Experience contributing to policy development or advisory work including analysis, briefing or stakeholder engagement
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas simply
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively to deliver highquality advice within defined timeframes.

You may have qualifications in economics, public policy, commerce, finance, accounting, law or a related discipline, or equivalent experience from a consulting, advisory or policy environment where you have built strong analytical, problemsolving and stakeholder skills.

This role is not suited to candidates with a purely accounting or transactional finance background without associated policy or advisory experience.
