Job summary

ASIC seeks an Analyst (EL1) in the Market Structure team to provide analysis and advice across regulatory projects that support the agency's objectives.

The team

ASIC's Markets Group safeguards trust and confidence in Australia's financial markets. The Group oversees the full regulatory lifecycle—licensing, supervision, investigation and enforcement—working to detect, prevent and deter market misconduct and promote market integrity and resilience.

The Market Structure team sits within ASIC's new Market Systems team. Market Systems has been established to provide a single, system-wide lens across public and private markets, supporting coordinated risk identification and effective regulatory responses across ASIC. Within this broader remit, the Market Structure team focuses on regulatory issues and initiatives affecting the design, operation and evolution of Australia's financial markets.

The team works closely with supervision, surveillance, enforcement, policy and other functions across Markets Group and ASIC to deliver coordinated regulatory outcomes.

The role

As an Analyst (EL1) in the Market Structure team, you will provide analysis and advice and contribute to regulatory projects that support ASIC's strategic objectives. Working with the Senior Manager and colleagues across ASIC, you will take responsibility for defined areas of work, help develop and implement regulatory initiatives, respond to emerging issues and deliver practical, evidence-based regulatory outcomes.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Contribute to regulatory projects and initiatives in support of ASIC's strategic objectives, including input to Treasury, regulatory reviews and other government initiatives.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of regulatory initiatives, law reform proposals, legislative changes and responses to emerging areas of work, in consultation with the Senior Manager.
• Proactively identify opportunities to use data to support priorities, including the effective collection, management, analysis and communication of insights from data and intelligence.
• Manage defined projects or workstreams, with appropriate guidance, to improve regulatory outcomes, including changes to processes, risk management frameworks, policies, systems and external regulatory guidance.
• Collaborate across ASIC and provide technical expertise, input and guidance on market-related regulatory issues and emerging risks.
• Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, contribute confidently to complex discussions, and prepare clear, high-quality analysis, advice, briefings and written material.

About You

You are an experienced analyst with sound regulatory judgement, strong analytical capability and a proactive approach. Curious and open to learning, you work effectively in a complex and evolving environment and can translate evidence and technical issues into clear advice and practical outcomes.

You Will Also Demonstrate

• Experience in regulation, financial services, financial markets, policy, law, economics, data analysis or a related field.
• Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use evidence and data to identify issues and develop sound conclusions.
• The ability to assess, verify and challenge complex information, exercise sound regulatory judgement and work independently with limited direction.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex matters clearly and tailor advice to different audiences.
• Demonstrated experience contributing to or leading projects, organising and prioritising work, taking ownership of deliverables and producing high-quality outcomes.
• The ability to work collaboratively, contribute positively to team outcomes and build effective relationships across functions and multidisciplinary teams.
• A growth mindset, with the curiosity, initiative and adaptability to learn quickly, seek feedback and respond constructively to emerging risks, regulatory issues and new areas of work.
• Knowledge of securities, derivatives, over-the-counter markets or financial market structure.
