Proudly serving Australians since 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides emergency road, aeromedical and primary health services for people in rural and remote Australia. Patient Transport offers Non‑Emergency Patient Transport primarily in Victoria and New South Wales. We work with a large fleet of ambulances and support our transport services with RFDS aircraft.

Patient Transport provides clinical care for people travelling from home to hospital, hospital to hospital and hospital to home, as well as transport to and from specialist clinics.

About the role

The Royal Flying Doctor Patient Transport is seeking Ambulance Attendants to join our team, delivering high‑quality patient care across a wide range of medical conditions. As a leader in the NEPT industry, we provide structured training, professional development opportunities, and a supportive, inclusive culture. This role is a flexible part‑time Ambulance Transport Attendant position, working at our Warragul branch.

Key responsibilities of the role include
  • Perform patient assessment and intervention on‑road
  • Provide high quality patient care and treatment during on‑road transport
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with patients and stakeholders
  • Assess the effectiveness of any intervention in accordance with all RFDS guidelines, NEPT regulations and within prescribed scope of practice.
  • Perform independently and problem solve within established policies and procedures
  • Work collaboratively with other team members
  • Maintain an understanding of RFDS MPC policies and procedures and NEPT regulations to support best practice and patient outcome

This role base rate is $34.82-$40.18 / hr based on experience for Ambulance Attendants and Registered Paramedics, plus additional shift penalties and benefits. For Registered Nurses the base rate is $38.43 / hr, plus additional shift penalties and benefits.

Qualifications and experience required
  • Experience working in the NEPT sector in an equal role desirable but not essential
  • Satisfactory completion of safety screening including a current Full Drivers Licence, Working with Children’s Check, National Police Check, and the right to work in Australia.
  • Be able to drive in both city and country traffic conditions
  • Have the availability to work shifts across 7 days when required.
  • All Applicants must be or have worked as an ATA or
  • Hold a Diploma of Paramedical Science (Ambulance), or Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic), or other equivalent qualification for Ambulance Officers recognised by RFDS or DHHS
  • And have evidence of successful completion of required clinical placements and a Clinical Skills Assessment, completion of a minimum of 400 hours operational stretcher experience under the direct supervision of a clinical instructor, successful completion of clinical skills assessment (e.g. stage 8).
  • For Registered Nurses applying – You must have AHPRA nursing registration, and evidence of completed nursing graduate year or documented work history within a hospital setting (Emergency Department, Cardiac Unit, High Dependency Unit, Intensive Care, Theatre) or evidence of 400 clinically supervised hours within another registered ambulance service.
