Job summary

Stride is seeking an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Clinician in Parramatta, NSW, to deliver targeted psychological interventions within a community-based mental health service. You will assess needs, plan care, and work with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate psychosocial supports.

The role requires AHPRA or AASW registration, and offers a permanent, full-time position with strong salary packaging, leave loading and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must have one of the following registrations: AHPRA (Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist/M Mental Health OT) or AASW (Accredited Mental Health Social Worker).
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills; commitment to professional development.
• Well-developed judgment and evaluation skills in mental health care.
• Understanding of public, NGO, private mental health systems and programs.
• Experience in AOD counselling and support is ideal.
• Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to people with mental illness.
• Ability to work creatively and collaboratively in a team.
• Organisational and time-management skills under pressure.
• Excellent verbal communication and writing abilities.
• WWCC eligibility and willingness to apply for NDIS worker screening.

About the service:

The Parramatta Medicare Mental Health Centre is funded by the Australian Government, to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the country. The service is tailored to the needs of the community in metro Sydney and provides a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support.

The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress, providing an alternative to presenting to the Emergency Department for low risk individuals, and allowing them to access support from trained mental health professionals within their community, outside a clinical setting.

Role Overview:

As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Clinician will provide focused psychological strategies tailored to meet the individual needs of people accessing the service within a community based mental health care setting. As well as working with relevant service systems to respond appropriately to their mental health and developmental needs.

• Provide comprehensive assessment, brief and ongoing interventions, risk management and care planning
• Work collaboratively across health service networks to plan and coordinate individualised psychosocial interventions to meet the needs of people with mental health issues based on a case formulation approach
• Deliver interventions that are empirically based and efficacious
• Work cooperatively and effectively through active participation within the multidisciplinary mental health team, the profession specific network and with consumers, families/carers and extended agencies

Requirements:

• Must have one of the following: General AHPRA registration as a Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Occupational Therapist OR AASW registration as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
• Demonstrated a comprehensive level of knowledge, expertise and skill; specifically, Brief Intervention Models of Care Commitment to professional development and willingness to participate in a continuous learning environment
• Well-developed judgment and evaluation skills demonstrating a working understanding assessment and care planning
• Sound understanding of the public, non-government and private mental health systems and programs and associated non-mental health programs in a community setting
• Ideally demonstrated experience in providing alcohol and other drugs (AOD) counselling and support
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills showing an ability and sensitivity to work with people who have or are at risk of developing a mental illness
• Proven ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team
• Demonstrated skills in organisation and time-management, including the ability to work under pressure and balance multiple tasks
• Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
• Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC
• Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
