Job summary

Airag Aviation Services Pty Ltd is seeking a skilled Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Structures) to join its Bankstown Aerodrome team on a full-time basis. The role covers inspecting, repairing, modifying and replacing structural components using approved data and drawings, with emphasis on sheet-metal and composite work.

The position requires 1–2 years’ experience in aircraft structural maintenance, Sheet-metal fabrication skills, and a strong commitment to aviation safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Structures) or equivalent required.
• 1–2 years of full-time experience in aircraft structural maintenance.
• Experience inspecting, repairing and replacing metal and composite aircraft structures.
• Ability to interpret structural repair manuals and drawings.
• Proficiency in sheet-metal fabrication, riveting, drilling and corrosion-control procedures.
• Proficiency with aircraft structural-repair tools and precision measuring equipment.
• Knowledge of aviation safety, quality-control and airworthiness requirements.
• High attention to detail and commitment to safe workmanship.

Responsibilities

About the role

Airag Aviation Services is seeking a skilled Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Structures) to join its team on a full-time basis at Bankstown Aerodrome. The position is responsible for inspecting, repairing, modifying, fabricating and replacing aircraft structural and airframe components using approved maintenance data, engineering drawings and manufacturer procedures. The role involves working with sheet metal and composite materials, carrying out corrosion treatment and structural surface protection, and documenting completed maintenance in accordance with applicable aviation safety and airworthiness requirements

Duties & Responsibilities

• Inspect aircraft frames, airframes and structural components for cracks, corrosion, deformation, wear and other defects
• Assess structural damage against approved maintenance data, structural repair manuals, engineering drawings and manufacturer specifications
• Dismantle and reassemble aircraft structural assemblies and remove damaged or defective airframe components as required
• Repair, modify and replace aircraft structural components, including fuselage sections, wings, control surfaces, panels, fairings and associated assemblies
• Fabricate, form, fit and install aircraft sheet-metal components and structural repair sections using approved materials and procedures
• Perform drilling, cutting, bending, riveting, fastening, bonding and sealing activities using appropriate aircraft-maintenance tools and equipment
• Carry out repairs to metal and composite aircraft structures in accordance with approved technical data and engineering instructions
• Measure dimensions, clearances and structural tolerances using precision measuring equipment and verify that completed work meets prescribed specifications
• Identify, remove, treat and prevent corrosion on aircraft structures and components using approved maintenance processes and materials
• Prepare repaired aircraft surfaces and apply approved primers, sealants, protective coatings and finishes where required as part of structural maintenance
• Assist with inspections and carry out quality checks on completed structural repairs under appropriate supervision to verify compliance with applicable technical, airworthiness and safety requirements
• Record defects, inspections, repairs, materials used and completed maintenance activities in the required maintenance documentation and technical records
• Comply with approved maintenance procedures, workplace health and safety requirements, aviation regulations and organisational quality-control procedures
• Coordinate with licensed aircraft maintenance engineers, engineering personnel and other maintenance staff to complete aircraft maintenance and repair activities safely and efficiently
• Maintain aircraft-maintenance tools, equipment and work areas in a safe, clean and serviceable condition

Skills & Qualifications required for the position

• Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Structures), or a relevant equivalent qualification
• A minimum of one to two years of relevant full-time experience in aircraft structural maintenance and repair
• Demonstrated experience inspecting, repairing and replacing metal and composite aircraft structures
• Experience interpreting structural repair manuals, engineering drawings, maintenance instructions and manufacturer specifications
• Competence in aircraft sheet-metal fabrication, riveting, drilling, forming, fastening, sealing and corrosion-control procedures
• Proficiency in using aircraft structural-repair tools, power tools and precision measuring equipment
• Experience in aircraft surface preparation and applying approved protective coatings would be advantageous
• Strong understanding of aviation safety, quality-control and airworthiness requirements
• High attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to safe and accurate workmanship
