Job description

We are seeking an experienced air quality professional to provide technical leadership and project delivery support within Ramboll’s Air and Climate Service Line. This position will focus on complex air dispersion modelling, air quality impact assessment, client advisory services, project management, and mentoring of junior to mid-level colleagues.

The role offers an opportunity to contribute to a growing national air quality practice while working collaboratively across Australian and global teams. Candidates with experience in digital tools, data workflows, automation, GIS, or cross-region technical coordination will be well placed to support ongoing innovation in how air quality services are delivered.

Air Quality Managing Consultant

Working within the Air and Climate Service Line you will be responsible for identifying, conducting and developing air quality projects based on an understanding of business needs, challenges, opportunities and the marketplace. Ramboll is seeking an experienced Air Quality Modelling professional for this position. Our ideal candidate is a technical leader with a proven track record of managing complex, multi-faceted air quality modelling projects, mentoring junior staff, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients. You would be responsible for overseeing project staff and be responsible for project delivery across the air quality team.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Technical Leadership: Lead and deliver complex air quality dispersion modelling and environmental impact assessment projects using regulatory and specialist models such as AERMOD, CALPUFF, CALMET, GRAL/GRAMM, TAPM and WRF. Develop innovative approaches to solving complex air quality, odour, emissions inventory and post-processing challenges.
  • Project Management: Manage air quality projects, including scope, schedule, budget, resources and quality, to support on-time and on-budget delivery that meets client expectations. Supervise project teams and delegate tasks to junior staff as required.
  • Technical Review and Quality Assurance: Provide senior-level QA/QC review and technical oversight of modelling analyses, emissions inventories, impact assessments, management plans, approval inputs and technical reports prepared by project teams.
  • Client and Regulatory Engagement: Act as a trusted client advisor through the full project lifecycle, from early strategy and scoping through approvals, compliance and implementation. Lead or support technical discussions with regulators and approval authorities on behalf of clients.
  • Staff Mentoring and Development: Mentor junior to mid-level air quality staff by providing technical guidance, training, review and career development support.
  • Business Development: Contribute technical and business content to proposals, develop scopes of work, support strategic client engagement and identify opportunities for growth in air quality services.
  • Digital and Cross-Region Collaboration: Support efficient project delivery through digital and technical innovation coordinating with Australian, APAC and global colleagues where specialist input or shared capability is required.

You will be part of the Australian Air and Climate Service Line working within the Air Quality Team as a Managing Consultant. You will lead the delivery of air quality projects, providing technical leadership, project management, and mentoring to junior team members, while supporting the ongoing growth and development of Ramboll’s national air quality capability.

Reporting to the National Air and Climate Practice Lead, you will play a key role in strengthening Ramboll’s air quality services and contributing to the continued success of the team. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across Australia, APAC and our global network to enhance project delivery, provide specialist technical expertise, drive digital innovation and promote technical excellence across Ramboll’s national air quality team.
