Job summary

EY is seeking an AI Engineer – Senior Consultant to design, build and deploy AI-enabled applications using Python and Microsoft Azure. You will work within the Digital Assurance innovation team, moving opportunities from discovery to production delivery, with a hands-on engineering focus.

This hybrid role can be performed from EY offices across Australia, with potential flexible hours. You will own defined technical workstreams and collaborate with senior leaders to deliver secure, scalable AI

AI Engineer – Senior Consultant

The opportunity

As our AI Engineer, you’ll design, build and deploy practical AI-enabled applications for clients and client teams, with Python, Microsoft Azure and production‑quality AI application engineering at the core of your work.

Working within the innovation team in our Digital Assurance practice, you’ll help move AI opportunities from discovery and feasibility assessment through rapid prototyping and into secure, scalable production delivery. This is a hands‑on engineering role rather than a pure research, strategy or architecture position. At Senior Consultant level, you’ll take ownership of defined technical workstreams and collaborate with senior technical, risk, product and engagement leaders.

This is a hybrid position that can be performed from any of our EY offices across Australia. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and deploy AI-enabled applications using Python and Microsoft Azure, including machine learning, generative AI and agentic AI solutions.
• Translate business requirements and discovery findings into practical technical designs, prototypes and secure, production‑ready solutions.
• Build scalable data, training and inference pipelines, applying source control, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring and appropriate software engineering, security and operational practices.

Skills And Attributes For Success

Technical skills required to succeed in this role are:

• Strong Python development skills and experience building production‑quality AI applications.
• Practical experience with Azure AI services, including Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Azure Machine Learning and Azure Databricks.
• Experience delivering scalable AI pipelines using cloud‑native architecture, automated testing, CI/CD and MLOps practices.
• Sound understanding of enterprise cloud security, monitoring and operational requirements.
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs, contribute to solution design and own technical deliverables.

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

• Front‑end development experience and the ability to collaborate with product designers.
• Knowledge of responsible AI, AI governance, data readiness and quality testing.
• Experience developing reusable AI products in regulated or risk‑managed environments. Relevant cloud certifications are advantageous.
