About the Role
On behalf of our client, we are seeking an energetic and highly experienced Agronomist to provide critical scientific and strategic oversight across their diverse agricultural operations. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic scientist who can translate data into actionable, on‑ground strategies.

- Conduct in‑depth studies on the environmental factors affecting commercial crop and pasture production, including microclimates, soil health, and water dynamics, to inform strategic decision‑making.
- Provide expert, evidence‑based advice to Farm Managers on advanced techniques for improving crop and livestock production, including soil improvement strategies, animal husbandry practices, and tailored feeding programmes.
Integrated Pest, Disease & Resource Management
- Develop and oversee integrated management plans for pests, weeds, and crop diseases, focusing on sustainable and effective control methods that minimise environmental impact.
- Investigate, plan, and lead the implementation of robust management procedures to mitigate the effects of environmental challenges such as drought, soil erosion, floods, and fires.
- In collaboration with irrigation specialists, develop holistic irrigation and drainage management plans, determining water quality and availability to ensure optimal water use efficiency across all operations.
Land Management & Environmental Stewardship
- Prepare detailed plans for land rehabilitation, including reforestation and sustainable pasture establishment, to enhance biodiversity and farm resilience.
- Devise and evaluate efficient harvesting and cultivation systems that maximise productivity while preserving soil structure and health for future seasons.
- Advise on alternative agricultural options and innovative farming systems that align with the business's goals for growth, sustainability, and market demands.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- A degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, or a closely related field is essential.
- Substantial and proven post‑qualification experience in a similar agronomy role, preferably within a large‑scale horticultural, viticultural, or mixed farming enterprise.
- A demonstrated hands‑on commitment with the ability to translate scientific theory into practical, on‑farm applications and solutions.
Essential Skills & Attributes
- Exceptional analytical skills with a strong attention to detail and the confidence to make sound, timely decisions based on data and observation.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, while also possessing the initiative and capability to work autonomously and without direct supervision.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport, explain complex concepts clearly, and advise stakeholders at all levels of the business, from operational staff to senior management.
