Job summary

Torrens University Australia is seeking a Senior Application Engineer - Salesforce to lead development, integration and maintenance of Salesforce CRM and Marketing Cloud in a complex environment. You will build integrations with Banner and other systems using REST/SOAP and Informatica, while driving quality, security and performance across the Salesforce stack.

You will bring hands-on Salesforce expertise, CRM/marketing automation knowledge and a practical, hands-on coding and debugging mindset.

Qualifications

• Five+ years hands-on Salesforce development experience, enterprise or higher education environment preferred.
• Experience with Salesforce Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud and Marketing Cloud incl. Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Contact Builder, AMPscript and SQL.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and stakeholder-management skills; experience in Agile delivery.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and enhance Salesforce CRM and Marketing Cloud solutions (Apex, Lightning, LWC) and configuration best practices.
• Configure, maintain and improve Salesforce environments to support operations, performance and reliability.
• Deliver and support robust integrations between Salesforce, Banner and other enterprise systems using REST, SOAP, and middleware including Informatica.
• Lead development across Marketing Cloud including Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio and SQL.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership, troubleshoot issues and drive performance, security and quality across Salesforce ecosystem.
• Apply secure coding practices, peer reviews, testing and deployment processes across development, testing and production environments.
• Collaborate with IT, Marketing, Student Services, Product Owners, QA and support teams to deliver fit-for-purpose, future-ready solutions.
• Maintain technical documentation, deliver training and contribute to IT roadmap and technical debt reduction.

Senior Application Engineer - Salesforce

About the role:

We’re looking for a Senior Application Engineer - Salesforce to play a critical role in the development, implementation and maintenance of our Salesforce CRM and Marketing Cloud platforms within a complex, integrated environment.

This role focuses on building and supporting integrations between Salesforce and our Student Management System, Banner, using Informatica, along with a range of other connected systems. You’ll bring strong Salesforce development experience, a solid understanding of CRM and marketing automation, and a hands‑on approach to coding, configuration and troubleshooting.

Working closely with teams across the organisation, you’ll help deliver practical, scalable and high‑quality solutions that support business outcomes, improve user experience and strengthen the way our platforms operate.

Key accountabilities (but not limited to):

• Salesforce development & customisation: Design, build and enhance Salesforce CRM and Marketing Cloud solutions using Apex, Lightning (Aura and LWC) and configuration best practice.
• System configuration & maintenance: Configure, maintain and continuously improve Salesforce environments to support business operations, system performance, reliability and user experience.
• Integrations & connected systems: Deliver and support robust integrations between Salesforce, Banner and other enterprise systems using REST and SOAP APIs, platform events, webhooks, middleware and integration platforms including Informatica.
• Marketing Cloud & AI enablement: Lead development and optimisation across Marketing Cloud, including Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Contact Builder, AMPscript and SQL, while staying informed about Agentforce, Einstein, Data Cloud and other AI capabilities.
• Hands‑on technical leadership: Troubleshoot complex issues, perform root‑cause analysis, provide production support and continuously improve performance, scalability, reliability, security and engineering quality across the Salesforce ecosystem.
• Quality assurance & engineering practices: Apply secure coding practices, peer review, unit testing, integration testing and Salesforce platform best practice to deliver high‑quality, maintainable solutions with reduced defects.
• Release & environment management: Support controlled Salesforce deployments across development, testing and production environments using GitLab, including validation, documentation, rollback planning and minimal disruption to business operations.
• Collaboration & solution design: Work closely with IT, Marketing, Student Services, Product Owners, business analysts, QA, release and support teams to understand business needs, translate them into technical solutions and deliver outcomes that are fit‑for‑purpose and future‑ready.
• Documentation, training & strategic planning: Maintain accurate technical documentation, deliver training and knowledge sharing, and contribute to the IT roadmap, platform continuous improvement, technical debt reduction and engineering maturity.

Who you are:

You’re a senior Salesforce engineer who is deeply technical, analytical and hands‑on by nature, with the communication skills to work confidently with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

You’ll bring:

• A tertiary qualification or formal training in IT, Computing Studies, Information Systems or a related discipline.
• At least five years of hands‑on Salesforce development experience, preferably in an enterprise or higher education environment.
• Demonstrated experience with Apex, SOQL, Lightning Web Components, Flow, Visualforce, Aura, custom objects and fields, data modelling and Salesforce security.
• Experience with Salesforce Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud and Marketing Cloud, including Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Contact Builder, AMPscript and SQL.
• Proven experience designing and supporting Salesforce integrations using REST, SOAP, platform events, middleware and integration platforms such as Informatica.
• Knowledge of Salesforce authentication, sharing, profiles, permission sets, governor limits, performance considerations and secure integration patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD and release tools such as GitLab, Azure DevOps, Gearset, Copado or equivalent.
• Salesforce Platform Developer I certification, which is required. Platform Developer II, Administrator, Platform App Builder, Marketing Cloud or Architect certifications are desirable.
• Knowledge of Agentforce, Einstein, Salesforce AI capabilities or Data Cloud is desirable.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with experience working in Agile or similar delivery methodologies.
• Experience participating in code reviews, technical design reviews, testing, release planning and production support.

Formal Salesforce certifications (Platform Developer, Marketing Cloud) are highly regarded, but your depth of hands‑on capability and problem‑solving mindset matter most.

This is a full‑time, permanent position with hybrid flexibility to work from home and a campus near you. Preferred locations are Sydney and Melbourne.
