Job summary

SA Health's Northern Adelaide Local Health Network is seeking an Aboriginal Wellbeing Officer (ASO5) to advocate for Aboriginal children in Out of Home Care, bridging health services and communities.

You will conduct CHDA assessments, support wellbeing through culturally informed practice, and connect young people to services, families, and carers across the region. The role requires strong cultural knowledge, resilience, and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Contributing to Comprehensive Health and Development Assessments (CHDA) for Aboriginal children and young people in Out of Home Care
• Supporting social and emotional wellbeing through culturally informed, relationship-centred practice
• Mapping, strengthening, and connecting young people to natural supports, community networks, and specialist services
• Advocating for the rights and wellbeing of children in OOHC, working alongside families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams

What You Bring

• Identification as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, with demonstrated connection to community and cultural knowledge
• Experience working with children, young people, or families in a health, community services, or social support context
• Understanding of the Out of Home Care system and the specific vulnerabilities facing Aboriginal children within it
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills across diverse stakeholders, including families, carers, and clinical staff
• Ability to work with sensitivity and professional boundaries in complex, emotionally demanding situations
• A current driver’s licence suitable for metropolitan travel across the Northern Adelaide region

In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.

WATTO PURRUNNA ABORIGINAL PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICES – provides culturally responsive primary healthcare services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in‑hospital and across four community sites.

PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICES – including GP Plus sites at Elizabeth, Modbury and Gilles Plains.
