Job summary

Blacktown NSW Department of Communities and Justice is recruiting an Aboriginal Child Protection Caseworker for Western Sydney. The role focuses on safety, wellbeing and cultural connection of children and families, with opportunities to provide support through home visits and court processes.

The position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only, with a salary range of AU$92,632–AU$120,478 per year plus superannuation and annual leave loading. Employment type is ongoing.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree qualification preferred.
• Two years’ experience with vulnerable children, young people and families if no qualification.
• Ability to build positive working relationships within Aboriginal communities; strong communication skills.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Paid Working with Children clearance number.
• Documented verification of Aboriginality (Aboriginal descent and identification).

Responsibilities

• Work sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, children or young people.
• Partner with other agencies and engage in complex problem solving.
• Walk with families to set strengths-based goals and provide appropriate assistance through home visits.
• Develop safety plans and complete risk assessments.
• Manage cases including high needs and high-risk clients and their families.
• Be involved in court processes and prepare court documents.
• Participate in supervision and Aboriginal cultural supervision.
