Zusammenfassung

FAO in Vienna invites applications for a Young Professional Officer (Programme Support) to assist and support the development, implementation and monitoring of projects within the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.

Organizational Setting

The Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture (CJN) assists Members of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in using nuclear techniques and related technologies to improve food security, alleviate poverty and promote sustainable agriculture. The Joint FAO/IAEA Centre consists of five Sections, each with an associated laboratory (located in Seibersdorf, 45 km south-east of Vienna). The work of the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre covers animal production and health; plant breeding and genetics; insect pest control; soil and water management and crop nutrition; and food safety and control.

The position is located in the Director's office of the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture (CJN), in Vienna, Austria.

Reporting Lines

The Young Professional Officer (Programme Support) reports to the Director of the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture (CJN) in Vienna, Austria.

Technical Focus

The Young Professional Officer (Programme Support) assists and supports the development, implementation and monitoring of assigned projects, partnership development, and outreach efforts. This includes support of the implementation of operational and financial activities, preparation of communication and outreach materials, coordination of events, and knowledge management. The Young Professional Officer also provides support to day-to-day operational activities, including the management of documentation, tracking of budget proposals, data analysis and streamlining of administrative processes.

Research, technical analysis and project related services to support the delivery of assigned projects, products and services.

Key Functions
  • Analyses relevant technical social, economic, environmental, and technology information, data and/or statistics for input in various documents.
  • Maintains records and updates databases and web pages.
  • Provides technical support to various projects.
  • Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars, etc.
  • Participates in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners.
Specific Functions
  • Assists in the drafting of project proposals, including data collection, progress monitoring and reporting.
  • Supports partnership development and the facilitation of operational processes related to acceptance of donor contributions, partnerships and resource mobilization activities.
  • Contributes to the development of communication materials and presentations for engagement with partners of the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre.
  • Supports the organization and delivery of events, such as webinars, side events, and exhibitions.
  • Assists and support financial planning and implementation by monitoring expenditure, identifying variances, and preparing structured financial analyses to facilitate informed managerial decisions.
  • Supports the coordination and review of travel plans and meeting plans, ensuring compliance with the procedures and funds allocations.
  • Monitors quality checks for all documentation from the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre's/Director's office.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, accounting or finance, social science, international relations or a closely related field.
  • One year of relevant experience in budget and project planning, project coordination and monitoring, and outreach activities, including at international level.
  • Working knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).
Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement
Technical/Functional Skills
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in collecting, analysing and summarizing technical information and data.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in collecting and analysing statistical data, graphs report preparation.
  • Experience in project development, implementation and reporting.
  • Experience in partnership development and resource mobilization is an asset.
  • Proven analytical skills and handling a large set of data is an asset.
  • Familiarity with knowledge management.
