International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna is seeking a Safeguards Information Assistant to collect, process and maintain data on State declarations and safeguards verification. You will prepare standardized reports and support the distribution of analyses to partners.
Role requires five years of data processing experience, strong accuracy, and excellent English communication. The position involves contributing to information systems development and supporting meetings and data requests.
This selection exercise may be used to generate a roster of pre‑approved candidates to address future staffing needs for similar functions in any of the Departments and Offices of the Organization. The Department of Safeguards carries out the IAEA’s duties and responsibilities as the world’s nuclear inspectorate, supporting global efforts to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. The primary role of the Department is to develop and implement IAEA safeguards to ensure that there is no diversion of declared nuclear material from peaceful activities and no indications of undeclared nuclear material or activities in a State as a whole. The Department comprises nuclear safeguards inspectors, responsible for carrying out inspections and verifications of all‑safeguards relevant information for nuclear facilities in over 180 States; and technical staff responsible for a wide range of activities including: developing concepts and approaches for implementing safeguards; developing and maintaining safeguards equipment; providing analytical and laboratory services for sample analysis; collecting, evaluating and analysing safeguards‑relevant information; providing information and communication technology infrastructure and services; and providing programme coordination support.
The Division of Information Management (SGIM) implements state‑of‑the‑art methodologies and techniques for the collection, processing and analysis of a range of safeguards‑relevant information, including declarations submitted by States, evaluations resulting from the analysis of samples or measurements collected during in‑field activities, and information from open sources, including nuclear trade‑related data and satellite imagery. Staff perform data validation and complex information analysis and evaluation to support in‑field activities and provide key input to the State evaluation process.
Reporting to the Section Head, the Safeguards Information Assistant is a team member responsible for collecting, processing and maintaining complete and up‑to‑date data related to State declarations and safeguards verification. In addition to preparing standardized evaluation reports based on this data, the Safeguards Information Assistant identifies and resolves deficiencies and discrepancies to ensure the completeness and long‑term integrity of the data. In addition, the Safeguards Information Assistant distributes the Section’s analytical reports to departmental partners and contributes to the further development of information systems and work processes by providing continuous feedback and proposing improvements.

Administrative Support Data Management Experience in database management such as processing, quality controlling or similar tasks.
Administrative Support Data and Information Analysis and Reporting Ability to work with different systems and tools to produce reports and analysis.
Administrative Support MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Proficiency in MS Office and the ability to use databases, graphical tools, and document management systems.
Administrative Support Informational and Workflow Management Proactive approach to identifying issues in data workflows, tools and systems and contributing towards continuous process improvements.
Safeguards Safeguards System, Basic Basic knowledge of safeguards concepts, nuclear materials present in nuclear fuel cycle facilities, environmental sampling, nuclear material accountancy and material balance evaluation principles.
Completed secondary education.
Minimum of five years of experience in data processing, data quality control or similar tasks.
Experience of performing information analysis and preparing summaries and reports.
Demonstrated ability to work to a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly at times of high workload.
Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Administrative skills testing to IAEA standard might be part of the selection process.
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax‑free annual net base salary starting at EUR 59439 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
