Zusammenfassung

Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien invites applications for a PhD collegial position in Finance at the Institute for Finance, Banking and Insurance. This part-time role (30 hours/week) runs from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2030.

The successful candidate will pursue a PhD in Finance, deepen research, and contribute to teaching and research activities. Independent dissertation work with exposure to conferences and admin tasks, and access to a modern campus in Vienna, awaits the selected candidate.

Qualifikationen

  • Diploma or master’s in Finance or related field qualifying for doctoral enrollment at WU.
  • Strong quantitative skills and interest in theoretical research on economic behavior.
  • Experience with financial databases and large datasets.
  • Proficiency in programming, econometrics, and textual analysis in R and/or Python.
  • Interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in finance focusing on asset pricing and monetary policy.

Aufgaben

  • Independently conduct scientific work, including the dissertation.
  • Participate in major conferences in the field.
  • Contribute to teaching and research tasks and administrative duties.
  • Assist with examinations and organizational/evaluation activities.
  • Teach courses and conduct examinations while progressing with the research.

What to expect

Independent scientific work, especially on the dissertation as part of the PhD studies.

  • Active participation in the most important conferences in the relevant area
  • Participation in teaching and research tasks as well as administrative tasks, taking into account the progress of the scientific work
  • Participation in organizational and evaluation measures, taking into account the progress of the scientific work
  • Participation in examinations
  • Independent implementation of courses and holding of examinations, taking into account the progress of the scientific work
What you have to offer

Diploma/master’s degree in Finance or a related field of subject (e.g., Economics) that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU.

  • Strong quantitative skills and interest in theoretical research on economic behavior of individuals and institutions
  • Strong English skills
  • Experience in working with financial and economic data bases and with large datasets in general. Advanced skills in programming, in particular coding, econometric, and textual analysis in R and/or Python. Experience in parallel and cloud computing is an advantage
  • Interest in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in finance with a focus on asset pricing and monetary policy
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching and learning formats

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,832.08 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
