Offer Description

With around 6.500 employees and 8.600 students, the Medical University of Vienna is one of the largest top-level biomedical research and teaching institutions in Europe. The Institute for Ethics and Law in Medicine (IERM), a collaborative research platform project with the University of Vienna, is looking for a full-time (40 hours per week) Postdoc-Position (m/f/x) (expected to start on March 1, 2026). This is a contract for a duration of 5 years (with the option of indefinite extension).

The Institute for Ethics and Law in Medicine is a joint institution of the Medical University of Vienna and the University of Vienna and conducts research and teaching at the interface of medical ethics and medical law. Events aimed at a wide specialist audience are held on a regular basis.

The position involves research and teaching in the field of medical ethics as well as the management of the research platform.

Your Tasks

  • Development and implementation of research projects within the research profile of the Institute. Particularly in the field/s of: medical ethics and empirical ethics and/or medical law
  • Raising third-party funding and contributing to the institute's teaching activities
  • Management of the institute's administrative agenda (budget planning, personnel issues, reporting, etc.) in consultation with the institute's management.

Your Profile

  • Completed PhD degree, preferably in philosophy, social sciences (e.g., medical sociology), Protestant/Catholic theology, medicine, law, psychology, political science, or nursing science
  • Qualifications and experience in empirical research in the field of medical ethics with quantitative and/or qualitative empirical research projects and teaching experience
  • Relevant record of publications in the field of medical ethics
  • Willingness to establish international collaborations
  • Skills to manage a scientific unit of 5-10 people in the scientific and administrative areas
  • Fluent in German and English

The minimum monthly salary for this position (Uni-KV, VerwGr. B1) is currently Euro 4.932,-- gross (14x per year) on a full-time basis and may be increased by taking into account relevant previous experience and other salary components related to the specificities of the job.
