ETH Zürich invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Professorship of Solid Mechanics (SMEC). The role focuses on experimental fracture mechanics of soft and architected materials, developing quantitative experiments and imaging-based methods to characterize fracture behavior near crack tips.

You will lead experiments, perform advanced imaging, and collaborate with numerical modeling and theory.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in mechanics, civil, mechanical, aerospace, or related field.
• Hands-on experience in mechanical testing and experimental design.
• Experience with quantitative optical measurement techniques such as DIC, particle tracking, confocal imaging, or high-speed imaging.
• Ability to independently develop methods, collaborate across disciplines, and communicate in English.

Aufgaben

• Lead experimental research on fracture mechanics of advanced materials including architected and soft materials.
• Develop image-based measurement methods and imaging techniques to study fracture near the crack tip.
• Quantify displacement, strain, fracture energy, and rate-dependent behavior using image-based methods.
• Supervise junior researchers (PhD and Master's students) and collaborate with modeling and theory groups.
