Operations Manager (Hands‑on) – Iconic Aust Company
Our client is a highly respected Australian manufacturing company with a team of 90‑100 in the factory. The company invests profits back into the business and competes head‑to‑head with overseas products. They are entering a phase of growth and seek an experienced Operations and Manufacturing Manager to lead on‑site.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, direct and coordinate all aspects of manufacturing operations, improving performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability.
- Work collaboratively with the management team to manage all manufacturing needs of the business.
- Provide strategic direction and input for development of best‑in‑class operations to exceed business requirements now and into the future.
- Report to the General Manager on manufacturing operations progress and performance to the agreed KPI’s.
- Collaborate with the General Manager to create, oversee and implement the business strategic plan.
- Review financial statements and data to improve profitability.
- Prepare and manage manufacturing budgets, forecasting and assist in planning the financial strategies from the manufacturing department.
- Exercise robust quality control and assurance, self and supplier performance management, dispatch and logistics, and coordinate with purchasing for material supply.
- Apply proven continuous improvement, OH&S, industrial relations, compliance and change management practices.
- Coordinate, manage and monitor manufacturing operations with a focus on improving customer satisfaction.
- Provide support on personnel matters to managers within manufacturing.
- Measure and implement improvements in manufacturing and supply chain.
- Implement sustainable lean and visual manufacturing techniques.
- Review the capacity of the production facility in line with sales forecasts and make recommendations as required.
- Coordinate the development of the supply chain and procurement systems.
- Produce innovative production processes to manufacture new and existing products.
- Continue the development of the ERP system in the production and supply chain areas.
- Work with other departments on new projects and assist in costing current and new products.
- Identify new opportunities that will give added value and income.
- Act as an innate facilitator of change, engaging, supportive, fostering collaboration and establishing a shared vision.
- Coach and train personnel in the manufacturing and supply departments.
- Perform other operational processes and activities as required.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Undertaken qualification in Engineering, Business or Supply Chain or equivalent relevant manufacturing experience.
- More than five years of managerial experience in high‑volume factory or plant operations within the manufacturing industry.
- Proven experience in production management, warehousing, logistics and distribution.
- Managed a site with a turnover of at least $40 million.
- At least 70 operating staff in the factory; preferably 80‑100.
- Experience dealing with unions and EBA’s.
- Performance management, safety, and quality experience.
- Lean knowledge is not a specific requirement, but excellent housekeeping standards, problem‑solving skills, and a driven, focused, and engaging leadership style are essential.
