RECENDT in Linz, Austria, invites applications for a Master student (m/f/d) in a 30-hour-per-week position on the JKU campus. The role focuses on developing quantum photonic sensing and imaging systems in the mid-infrared and contributes to optical design, modelling, and construction of advanced photonic tools.

RECENDT develops optical and acoustic technologies for non-destructive characterization of materials in terms of chemical and physical/structural properties and for process-integrated testing and inline analysis. The acquired data is processed with cutting-edge data analysis methods and provided to the process-owners as usable and valuable information. With an interdisciplinary team and state-of-the-art photonic technologies, RECENDT thus covers the entire field of intelligent sensor technology.
To actively strengthen our team, we are looking for a Master student (m/f/d) in Linz, Austria / 30 hours per week.
You will focus on the development of quantum photonic sensing and imaging systems in the midinfrared (mid-IR) spectral range for applications in chemical sensing and advanced materials characterization. Current state-of-the-art mid-IR spectroscopy and imaging are limited by detector performance, costs, and system complexity, particularly for compact and industry-relevant solutions. In this work, the properties of entangled photon sources are used in nonlinear interferometry (sensing with undetected photons) to overcome current limitations and provide enhanced sensitivity using advanced optical system designs. You will contribute to the design, modelling, and construction of quantum photonic systems. Your research aims to advance quantum sensing techniques toward practical, robust tools for biology, materials science, and industrial quality control. Publishing high-quality scientific results (as first author or co-authoring) in peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at international conferences is an integral part of your position. The research field is emerging and offers strong scientific and technological impact; you will be embedded in a newly established quantum sensing research group while benefiting from close multidisciplinary exchange with established IR spectroscopy and optical coherence tomography (OCT) groups.
