F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG is seeking a freelance Backend Software Engineer to contribute to backend services for our Roche platforms from anywhere in the EU.

You will work with Java 17+, Spring, Hibernate, and REST services, collaborating with architects, frontend engineers, QAs, and product owners in an agile environment. We value clean code, test coverage, and CI/CD practices, plus the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

Qualifikationen

• At least 3 years of experience as a Software Engineer.
• At least 2 years of full-time experience as a Backend Engineer.
• Proficient in Java 17+ and backend frameworks (Spring, Hibernate).
• Strong SQL skills with PostgreSQL and relational databases.
• Experience with cloud providers, preferably AWS, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent written and spoken English; able to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team.
• EU citizen or valid Austrian work permit.

Essential skills for this mission:

• You enjoy developing clean, stable, testable and performant backend code, serving our beautiful mobile applications
• You have at least 3 years of experience working as a Software Engineer
• You have at least 2 years of full-time experience as a Backend Engineer
• You love working in and supporting an interdisciplinary team, together with architects, frontend engineers, QAs, and product owners
• You are passionate about solid technical design, clean code and future-proof architectures
• You are familiar with Java 17+ and frameworks like Spring 5, Hibernate, or JAX-RS
• You have experience with SQL and relational databases like PostgreSQL
• You have experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or any other cloud provider
• You want to learn new technologies and are able to adopt them quickly
• Great written and verbal communication in English
• You are either an EU citizen or hold a valid Austrian work permit

Bonus skills:

• Experience with medical, security, and privacy regulations
• Knowledge of the diabetes industry or other comparable health industries
• Experience working in agile environments
