Supervises and coordinates all welding activities in piping and structural fabrication, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards. Oversees welders’ performance, material inspection, and NDT processes to maintain safety and productivity at the work site.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise welding groups in piping/structural fabrication and field installation works.
- Obtain Permit to Work for assigned activities and carry out works in compliance with Permit to Work conditions.
- Review Project Specifications, Procedures, Inspection Test Plans, and Method Statements to familiarize with project requirements.
- Carry out material inspection, review Material Test Certificates of metals and consumables, and verify suitability against specifications and material traceability.
- Coordinate and liaise with piping superintendents, piping engineers, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow at the work site.
- Inspect materials against drawings, material grade, thickness, use of applicable WPS, welding process, monitoring of welding consumable control, and essential variables.
- Monitor welding works and control welder performance. Issue NDT requests as per project requirements/line class, coordinate with NDT subcontractors for NDT works, and review and approve NDT reports.
- Report daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
- Liaise with Client/Contractor and Independent Third-Party Inspectors for review and approval of welding/quality related documents such as PWPS, WPS, PQR, and NDT reports.
- Maintain and monitor calibration of equipment and instruments.
- Issue NCR/CAR reports on defective works, coordinate for closeout and prevention of defective works, and coordinate weld repairs and management of defective closeout works.
- Witness and certify welder qualifications, NDT tests, mechanical tests, pressure tests, flushing and drying operations, and reinstatement of piping systems.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Min Educational Background: Any Degree/Diploma in Mechanical
- Min Work Exp: 10–15 years
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; fluent in English.
- In-depth knowledge of all welding processes, techniques, and their applicability.
- Expertise in inspection of fit-ups, assemblies, dimensional inspections, and certification of piping/pipeline/welding works; good understanding of welding defects and interpretation of NDT reports.
- Sound knowledge of international codes and standards; ability to read and interpret drawings and isometrics fluently.
- Familiarity with inspection instruments such as bridge cam gauge, hi/lo gauge, taper gauge, thermometer, clamp meter, pressure gauges, and pressure/temperature recorders; proficient in monitoring and recording welding parameters.
- Conversant with oil & gas HSE requirements, work practices, and quality standards.
- Able to work at height on platforms, scaffoldings, building roofs, in confined spaces, and trenches.
