Scope of the Job

Reporting to: Marketing Manager

Responsible for: Development and technical maintenance of SPAA’s website

Works closely with: Marketing, Communications, Admissions, IT teams, Hosting provider, External vendors.

Job Purpose

We\'re looking for a mid-level Web Developer to contribute to the development, performance, and ongoing improvement of our websites and mobile applications. Hands-on technical role focused on building reliable, scalable, and user-focused digital platforms.

The role plays an important part in shaping SPAA’s digital experience for students, faculty, and the wider community across both web and mobile platforms.

  • Implement clean, scalable page and application structures aligned with institutional and user needs.
  • Ensure code quality, maintainability, and reusability across web platforms.
  • Translate functional and content requirements into robust technical solutions.

CMS & Platform Management

  • Configure, customise, and extend CMS platforms, with strong emphasis on Odoo Website/ Odoo CMS.
  • Develop and maintain templates, components, and custom modules.
  • Support content teams by enabling CMS flexibility without compromising technical integrity.
  • Maintain technical documentation for CMS structures and custom developments.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of mobile applications using hybrid or cross-platform frameworks (e.g. React Native, Flutter, Ionic, or similar).
  • Support feature development, bug fixes, and performance improvements for existing mobile applications.
  • Integrate mobile applications with web platforms and backend systems via APIs.
  • Assist with testing, build processes, and deployment preparation for mobile applications.

Performance, SEO & Accessibility

  • Optimize website and mobile application performance, responsiveness, and usability.
  • Implement technical SEO best practices for web platforms.
  • Support adherence to accessibility standards and cross-platform compatibility.

Infrastructure & Technical Support

  • Support deployment processes, including staging and production environments, backups, and version control.
  • Assist in troubleshooting server-side, CMS, web, and mobile application issues in coordination with IT teams and vendors.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Communications, Admissions, and IT teams to support institutional objectives.
  • Contribute to ongoing platform enhancements, feature rollouts, and technical improvements.

Participate in technical discussions, documentation, and development standards.

The role sits at the intersection of web development, CMS architecture, mobile application development, and performance optimisation. It is not a design role. The successful candidate will work closely with Marketing, Communications, Admissions, and IT teams, and will collaborate with hosting providers, server administrators, and external vendors as required.

•Must have a bachelor’s degree in the related field.

•Minimum of three to six years of mid-level experience across web and/or mobile application development.

•Backend development experience (PHP and/or Python preferred).

•Experience working with CMS platforms, ideally Odoo.

•Experience developing or maintaining mobile applications using hybrid or cross-platform frameworks.

•Understanding of API integration between web and mobile platforms.

•Familiarity with performance optimization and technical SEO fundamentals.

•Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git)

•Experience with Progressive Web Apps (PWAs).

•Familiarity with authentication systems, role-based access, and user dashboards.

•Exposure to mobile app deployment processes (App Store / Google Play).

•Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG).

•Experience in higher education, government, or large institutional environments

•Comfortable contributing to end-to-end development tasks with guidance when required.

•Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

•Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders

Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is an independent Academy established by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, to address a growing demand in the UAE and MENA region for formal education and quality professional training in the performing arts sector. SPAA is the only performing arts conservatoire in the Middle East and North Africa region, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programmes taught in English. The purpose-built Academy includes a 432-seat theatre, two fully equipped studio performance spaces, TV/recording studios, twelve sprung rehearsal studios, 12 singing tutorial spaces, resource library, gymnasium and cafe.

Sharjah Performing Arts Academy specialises in training graduates for work in the international professional performing arts industry. The SPAA faculty are highly experienced practitioners within their respective fields. The focus of the Academy is practical rather than academic. The Academy\'s primary goal is to equip graduates with the highest level of practical skills in their field, along with the tools necessary for successfully creating their own work or practice.

Salaries in the UAE are tax-free and disbursed monthly in United Arab Emirates dirhams. Faculty members receive a competitive benefits package that includes: accommodation, private medical insurance, and a residency visa, which extends to cover dependent family members. The Academy will cover the cost of education expenses for eligible dependent children under the age of 18.

Employees and eligible dependents are entitled to an annual return ticket to their home country.

  • The individual in this position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all SPAA policies and procedures, including the Workplace Health and Safety and Confidentiality policies.
  • This position is a full-time, one-year contract based at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy, University City, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
