Job summary

A healthcare facility in the UAE is seeking an experienced Ultrasound Technologist to perform various ultrasound examinations, coordinate quality improvement programs, and ensure patient safety. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound, a minimum of two years of experience, and a Dubai Health Authority License. Job description

Performs all requested Ultrasound examinations per the American Hospital Dubai and Medical Imaging Department guidelines. Conducts various ultrasound imaging procedures, including those related to OB/GYN, Abdominal, small parts, Vascular, Neonatal, Musculoskeletal, and Interventional areas. Participates in the coordination of the Departmental Quality Improvement and Education Programs, attends staff meetings, and contributes to unit projects. Schedules patients, evaluates critical and emergency procedures, and collaborates with radiologists to meet procedural needs. Performs safety checks, assists in incident/accident follow-up and patient complaint resolution, and maintains a clean and hygienic work area. Contributes to the effective and safe operation of the Ultrasound suite.

Responsibilities
  • Performs all requested Ultrasound examinations per the American Hospital Dubai and Medical Imaging Department guidelines.
  • Performs Ultrasound procedures as required by the Medical Imaging Department, OB/GYN, Abdominal, small parts, Vascular, Neonatal, Musculoskeletal, and Interventional procedures.
  • Performs all requested sonographic examinations per the Medical Imaging Department guidelines or the Radiologist's instructions.
  • Performs Ultrasound Imaging and procedures, which include instructing and manipulating patients, selecting techniques and calibrating equipment, to obtain high-quality images.
  • Schedules patients for Ultrasound examinations if required.
  • Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and arranges patient priorities to accommodate them in conjunction with the radiologist's instructions.
  • Assists the Chief and Technical Director of Medical Imaging with the coordination of the Departmental Quality Improvement and Education Programs.
  • Participates in staff meetings and unit projects, and implements/evaluates creative approaches to meeting goals.
  • Assists with follow-up of Incidents/Accidents and Patient Complaints as directed by the Chief of Medical Imaging and the Technical Director.
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and hygienic by disinfecting machines and accessories regularly and keeping food and drinks away from work areas, and personal items out of sight.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Reviews the request and previous studies before performing the examination.
  • Cleans, stocks, and checks the operation of equipment and accessory devices for safety daily in rostered areas. Cleans and tidies rooms at the end of all shifts.
  • Works closely with the radiologists to cater for all procedural needs and requirements
  • Observes all safety measures in the specialised area (e.g. sharp disposal, checking PTT times, etc., available for interventional procedures).
  • Performs and monitors safety checks on patients, employees, and visitors to comply with the safety regulations in the Ultrasound suite.
  • Performs any additional duties as required, including administrative duties, assists with filing, clerical and scheduling wherever possible as required by the Technical Director.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.
  • Performs additional duties as specified by the immediate Supervisor.
  • Participates in on-call rota.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound/Sonography/Medical Imaging/Radiography or
  • Associate Degree/Diploma in Ultrasound with Registration/certification or accreditation as a Radiographer/Sonographer
  • Active home country registration
  • Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of radiation, magnetic protection, and safety
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) or accreditation standards
  • Knowledge of Middle East Culture and Customs
  • Ability to remain sensitive to the needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and Ultrasound techniques
  • Ability to speak and write in English fluently
