Job summary

AD Ports Group is seeking a reliable Chief Engineer to oversee the technical upkeep of the Transshipment fleet in Abu Dhabi. You will lead a team of marine engineers, ensure maintenance to shipbuilders' specifications, and coordinate with Class, Flag authorities and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities include planning maintenance, supervising vessel surveys, and developing cost-efficient maintenance strategies while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Qualified as Chief Engineer Foreign Going with COC or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of ship management and international maritime regulations.
  • Proven leadership of marine engineering teams and budget responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs and controls activities of a team of marine engineers and provides expertise in repair and maintenance of assets.
  • Assist all vessels class surveys when needed.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a preventative maintenance program and a scheduled maintenance program.
  • Coordinate testing, trials, pre-commissioning and commissioning of equipment.
  • Identify chronic equipment problems and perform root cause analysis to improve reliability.

Job description

To Support the Safeen Transshipment functions, in the technical upkeep of the Transshipment fleet as per local, Class, Flag rules. The vessels should always be maintained to the highest industry standards & keeping in line with best industry practices.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, directs and controls the activities of a team of marine engineers and to providing expertise in repair and maintenance of assets as needed.
  • Assist all vessels class surveys when needed.
  • To strategically develop a maintenance plan matching/specific for the vessel equipment in coordination with respective Marine Engineers.
  • Assist Budget planning, yearly procurement schedule especially on Major project expenditures in coordination with General Manager.
  • Major project (Repair and Dry docking) monitoring in coordination with marine and Dry docking superintendent.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a preventative maintenance program to assure cost effective maintenance and a scheduled maintenance program to ensure that maintenance is performed as per shipbuilders / manufacturers specifications covering all vessels.
  • Initiate, review and implement Vessels/equipment modification request to improve efficiently, operability and reliability.
  • Review critical/ insurance spare strategy to optimize repair / reinstatement times of major equipment.
  • Identify area for improvement in vessels/ equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Report all deviations with analysis and corrective action
  • Prepare spares parts, material, labour hours, details for Preventive and corrective mainyenance.
  • Co-ordinate all related activities pertaining to testing,trails, pre-commissioning and commissioning of equipment and machinery.
  • Initiate equipment modification request to improve efficiently, operability and reliability.
  • Identify chronic equipment problems, failures and carry out root cause analysis, and develop solutions to eliminate bad actors to improve performance.
  • Ensure defect attendance as per the requirements all the time.
People Management Responsibilities:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of negotiating and managing relationships with various stakeholders including crew members officers and ratings, management, and external regulatory bodies (Class, Flag Authorities, Service Providers etc.
Strategic Responsibilities:
  • Communicate SAFEEN Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and procedures to ensure that all technical and other staff understand current policies and practice requirements.
  • Ensure fleet vessels are operated to and comply with SAFEEN health, safety, environmental and quality standards, and processes.
  • Take corrective actions to address any safety issues or risks arising from fleet operations and restore safe working conditions where applicable.
Qualifications
  • Certificate of Competency (Class I) / Chief Engineer Foreign Going
  • Required Skill(s): Ship Management, International Convention Regulation, ISM Code, ISPS Code and MLC.
  • Proficient in English is a must. Arabic is additional value.
  • At least 6 year(s) of working experience, with minimum 2 YEARS EXPERIENCE AS CHIEF ENGINEER.

  • Has proven expertise the overall responsibility for the safe, economic, and efficient operation of vessels assigned. He ensures ships are managed and operated in accordance with organizational policies, operating procedures, and management systems.
  • Timely completion of a project phase, throughout the terms of the fleet status.
  • Ensuring project stays within budget.
  • Ensure all assets designed for the project have well documented Planned Maintenance System
