Basic Function
The Technical Designer / Design Coordinator supports the Design Manager by coordinating design activities, managing documentation workflows, and ensuring timely delivery of architectural, interior, structural and MEP design packages.
The role serves as the link between internal design teams, external consultants, and project stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of all design information in line with project timelines, authority requirements, and client expectations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Design Coordination
- Assist the Design Manager in reviewing, tracking, and managing all design documentation across architecture, interiors, and MEP.
- Ensure all drawings and technical submittals are properly coordinated across disciplines before release.
- Identify and elevate design clashes, scope gaps, and inconsistencies to the Design Manager for resolution.
- Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain timely input.
- Drawing & Documentation Control
- Maintain and update the design register (drawings & materials), tracking submissions, approvals, and revisions.
- Ensure the latest approved drawings are issued to relevant internal and external teams.
- Coordinate with the Document Controller to ensure correct filing and naming conventions are followed.
- Support preparation of design packages for client and authority submission.
- Project Support
- Attend coordination meetings and design workshops; record and circulate meeting minutes as needed.
- Assist in preparing presentation materials, finish boards, and design reports for client meetings.
- Support the technical team in gathering required information and following up on action items.
- Authority Compliance & Approvals
- Assist with preparation of documents required for local authority submissions (e.g., Dubai Municipality, DCD, DEWA, Trakhees).
- Follow up on the status of submissions and approvals in coordination with the design and MEP teams.
- Site & Execution Interface
- Evaluate actual site conditions prior to the commencement of drawing preparation.
- Coordinate with the site team to ensure design intent is implemented during construction.
- Respond to site RFIs related to design and support the Design Manager in issuing clarifications.
- Attend site inspections and snagging sessions when required to support design validation.
- Other duties as assigned by management to meet role and organizational needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or Engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience in design coordination within the fit‑out or construction industry.
- Exposure to UAE authority approval processes and documentation standards.
- Experience working with design consultants, contractors, and subcontractors on fast‑track projects.
Specific Job Abilities
- Strong understanding of interior fit‑out processes and documentation requirements.
- Ability to manage multi‑disciplinary coordination (Architecture, Interior Design, MEP).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communicator and problem‑solver.
- Familiarity with authority regulations and approval processes in the UAE.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and basic understanding of Revit or BIM tools.
