Job summary

AtkinsRéalis seeks an experienced Inspector specializing in Structural assessments to join our Civil team in the United Arab Emirates. The role focuses on inspections, evaluating structural integrity, and delivering detailed reports for roads, bridges, tunnels and related infrastructure.

You will verify conformance with IFC drawings, specs and standards (AASHTO/ASCE/ASTM), supervise QA, mentor junior inspectors, and coordinate with project teams and authorities to ensure safety and quality on

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with structural focus; PE preferred.
• 7+ years of proven structural inspection experience on roads/bridges.
• Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles and QA procedures.

Responsibilities

• Conduct structural inspections of road/highway structures including bridges, flyovers, tunnels, walls, culverts.
• Perform visual, dimensional checks and NDT as required; monitor concrete works and curing.
• Prepare detailed inspection and progress reports highlighting structural condition and safety concerns.
• Coordinate daily inspection activities with contractors, consultants and project teams.
• Review shop drawings, material submittals, and WIRs; provide technical guidance to junior staff.
• Attend site meetings with clients, contractors and authorities; support audits and quality reviews.

Job Description Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Inspector specializing in Structural assessments to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, with a focus on structures. The Inspector will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections, evaluating structural integrity, and providing detailed reports on the condition of project and related infrastructure. The role requires a keen eye for detail, excellent analytical skills, and a deep understanding of structural engineering principles.

Structural & Road Infrastructure Inspection

• Conduct routine and specialized inspections of road and highway structures, including:
• Bridges and flyovers.
• Underpasses and tunnels.
• Retaining walls and abutments.
• Culverts, drainage structures, and road-side installations.
• Verify that construction works comply with approved IFC drawings, technical specifications, and method statements.

Quality Control & Compliance

• Perform visual inspections, dimensional checks, and non-destructive testing (NDT) as required for concrete and steel structures.
• Monitor concrete works including formwork, reinforcement, concreting, post-tensioning, and curing activities.
• Ensure compliance with AASHTO, ASCE, FHWA, ASTM, and local authority (UAE) standards.

Reporting & Documentation

• Record inspection data, site observations, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective actions.
• Prepare detailed inspection and progress reports highlighting:
• Structural condition.
• Construction quality issues.
• Safety concerns and recommendations.

Coordination & Technical Support

• Coordinate daily inspection activities with contractors, consultants, and project management teams.
• Assist Project Engineers in reviewing shop drawings, material submittals, and work inspection requests (WIRs).
• Provide technical guidance to junior inspectors and site staff on best practices in road structure construction.

Stakeholder & Site Interface

• Attend site meetings with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities as required.
• Support audits, quality reviews, and inspections conducted by authorities or third parties.
• Ensure inspection activities are aligned with project schedules and safety requirements.

About you

Education & Certification

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural specialization preferred).
• Master’s Degree is an advantage.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification preferred.

Experience

• 7+ years of proven experience in structural inspection, preferably on:
• Road and highway projects.
• Bridges and major infrastructure works.
• Demonstrated experience working in consultant supervision roles is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of:
• Structural engineering principles and materials.
• Road and highway construction methods.
• Quality assurance and inspection procedures.
• Proficient in inspection tools, testing equipment, and reporting software.
