Reqiva in Dubai is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead backend development of large-scale platforms. The role emphasizes architecture ownership, hands-on coding and guiding multiple teams in modern distributed systems and AI tooling.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend software engineering experience with Java and modern distributed architectures.
• Strong expertise in Java/J2EE, Spring/Spring Boot, microservices and distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures on Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Familiarity with Kafka, asynchronous processing and event-driven designs.
• Hands-on leadership, architecture discussions and mentoring of engineers.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.
• Design highly available microservices and distributed systems.
• Lead system design discussions across engineering teams.
• Own complex multi-team technical initiatives and drive delivery.

Staff Software Engineer – Java | Dubai

Dubai, UAE – 5 days onsite

We’re hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join a major digital technology organisation in Dubai, working on large-scale platforms used across multiple markets.

This is a senior hands-on individual contributor position for an engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, designing scalable systems and influencing engineering standards across multiple teams.

You’ll work within a substantial engineering environment, taking ownership of architecture and delivery across complex backend and distributed systems, while helping shape how modern AI and GenAI tooling is adopted across the engineering organisation.

What you’ll be doing

• Architecting and developing scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud
• Designing highly available, resilient microservices and distributed systems
• Leading system design and architecture discussions across engineering teams
• Taking ownership of complex, multi-team technical initiatives
• Working with Kafka, asynchronous processing, caching and event-driven architectures

What we’re looking for

You’ll ideally have 10+ years of backend software engineering experience, with deep expertise in Java and modern distributed architectures.

Strong experience across:

• Java / J2EE
• Spring / Spring Boot / Spring Cloud
• Microservices and distributed systems
• Kafka / JMS / asynchronous architectures
• Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift
• Cloud platforms – Azure, AWS or GCP
• CI/CD and modern engineering practices
• SQL and NoSQL databases
• High-performance and highly available systems

Experience using LLMs, GenAI or AI-assisted development tools to improve software engineering productivity would be a significant advantage.

We’re particularly interested in engineers who remain highly hands-on technically but operate beyond the boundaries of a single team – influencing architecture, mentoring engineers and taking ownership of major engineering initiatives.
